IIM Trichy starts classes from next academic year in its BHEL campus. The administrative office for IIM will be set in MHD building. ( I beg to ask why ? Can’ t they have a building of their own. ) .
The institute campus will come up in a 200-acre site given by the Tamil Nadu government which is in the premises of Bharathidasan University, close to Anna University-Tiruchi on Pudukottai road, 18 km from the town. The IIM-Tiruchi was one among the six institutes sanctioned by the HRD ministry in March 2008, as part of 11th five-year plan. Until, IIM tricy can move to the new site and stand on its own, IIM-Bangalore has been vested with the responsibility of mentoring IIM-Tiruchi.

The National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi (NIT-T) has received a letter from the Ministry of Human Resource Development asking for provision of minimum infrastructure facilities for temporary functioning of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) proposed for Tiruchi in the Eleventh Plan period.
The communication indicated the MHRD’s plans to admit 140 students through CAT examinations, but the year has not been mentioned.
“In deference to a request for hostel accommodation of the students of the new IIM made by an official team that visited recently, we have assured to provide it after obtaining the approval of our Board of Governors. The additional request for providing classrooms could be fulfilled only next year since the institute has to accommodate about 900 new students this year, owing to the additional intake as per OBC reservation norms,” Institute Director M. Chidambaram said.
The IIM being a Central Government institution, the MHRD’s expectation of NIT-T’s support is stated to be obvious.
Precedent
Also, there has been a precedent. The IIM-Kozhikode started functioning from the campus of NIT-Calicut before moving to its own campus.
In case the Ministry decides to admit students to the new IIM from the current year, the facility that the BHEL, Tiruchi, had earlier accepted to provide will be utilised for classrooms, it is learnt.
Besides Tamil Nadu, new IIMs have been approved for six other States: Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Haryana, in the Eleventh Plan period.
Mentoring
Each of the new IIMs are to receive mentoring support from an existing IIM. The one in Tiruchi is likely to be provided such a support by IIM-Kozhikode, sources said.

IIM will temporarily function from NIT campus before moving to its own campus near BARD.
Efforts are on to start IIM from this year.

Chennai is TN, TN is Chennai?
There is all-round development in Chennai. Most automobiles are manufactured there and it has a big sea port facilitating exports and imports. There is an atomic power station and a huge presence of IT industry. Development in the state should be evenly spread in districts like Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Tirunelveli etc. so that there is a healthy all-round growth. This could also decongest Chennai. As a first step, the state capital should be shifted to Trichy since it is equidistant from all cities in the state. Coimbatore could concentrate on engineering industry and information technology, Trichy on legislature and heavy industry, Madurai on education and medical sectors, Tirunelveli on agriculture and tourism. The government should give equal opportunities to people from all over the state instead of centralising everything in Chennai.

I dono on what basis you people are asking to shift the capital of TN from Chennai to Trichy..
First of all, the City should have a potential to be a capital of TN which coimbatore,Madurai or Trichy lacks with the presence of Chennai..Even the CBE or Madurai cannot be made as Capital bcz it won’t fit..then comes Trichy..
Chennai is the best place in TN not suddenly created, right from its birth, eligible to be capital of a big-state like TN..Please don’t post the impossible things..Dr.MGR told to shift capital to Trichy or Madurai, without knowing the underlying facts..
So, Concentrate on possible things rather than stressing the useless things.

Dear Trichiites,
I suppose it is useless in discussing in a virtual room.. Both the state and central representatives were pushing down the growth of Trichy.
The main objective of DMK party were,
–>kadal neerai kudineerakkum thittam.
–>Tharisu nilangalai vilai nilangalaga matrum thittam.
–>malaikottai tharaikottaiyaga matrum thittam.
Cities even Salem, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin were ahead of Trichy in infrastructure and development..
–> No trains originating from Trichy.
–> AIIMS Super Speciality hospital scheme shifted to Salem & Madurai due to political preasure
–> Trichy Airport has been de-promoted as per the instruction received from a top politician from Madurai and Madurai airport has been promoted.
–> No trains has been announced by the Railway ministry from Trichy, Instead trains originating from trichy has been extended to other Zones.
–> The state or central representatives from our district is not interested in developing the city. But we are blaming the associations and industries.
The next aim of DMK government is to make Madurai the sub-capital of tamilnadu. Bifurcate Trichy and merge it with Madurai and other surrounding districts. This is because we are not paying tax. Govt (Both Central & State govt) does not get any benefits from Trichy.
–> Central govt cancels almost all the flight services provided by Airindia & Indian airlines from Trichy. The main reason for the loss of NACIL is due to the officials political view.
Ultimately, govt is not functioning based on the democracy, but based on the political influences.
Trichy is expecting its doom’s day..
