Bharathidasan University after getting Anna University brand for its technical wing is moving ahead in diversifying itself in other major disciplines as well. It has now plans to start off-campus B. Tech. programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Biotechnology, and Electronics and Communication Engineering in Bishop Heber College and Jamal Mohamed College in Tiruchi city and at Nehru Memorial College at rural Puthanampatti from the coming academic year. The respective colleges provide faculty and resources but the degree will be in Anna University’s name. The AU / BU takes 25% of the revenue and the rest goes to the respective colleges.

On the outset, this is a perfect franchisee model where the education and name is being out for 25% of the revenue. The major strength of an academic program lies in the strength of the faculty and their resources. Nothing against the three colleges but with varied faculty and resources in three different colleges in three different locations, it is just impossible to provide the same quality of education that should come with the stamp of an university degree.

Now getting Anna University degree is like getting a IGNOU degree in any discipline.

Oh! How the mighty has fallen !

Hopefully AU will come out with more details on this program and how it intends to provide the best faculty and resources to students.
