Joshepine Mary of Malaithadampatti, near Manapparai, has put the greenhouse to some practical / commercial use. She has planted 250,000 common varieties of rose samplings in an area of 500 sq.m. enclosed in a greenhouse which maintains a tolerable temperature of 31 deg Centigrade. The humidity will be controlled at 70% to 90% by the cooling pad and foggers along with giant exhaust fans. The polyethylene sheet covering the greenhouse checks the intensity of the ultra-violet rays from the Sun.  The unit has been setup with an estimated cost of about 13 lakhs with 1.62 laks chipped in as subsidy from the National Horticulture Mission. The saplings will be kept in the greenhouse for 30-45 days. At the end of the period, they will be acclimatised to the normal temperature before being marketed.

Kudos to Ms. Mary for doing this. Even though it appears unconventional, it a widely used in many countries for commercial purposes. This will fit perfectly for places like Trichy where the temperature and humidity swings wildly in Summer.

Trichy will be connected to Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia from August 12th and it has received the approval of Civil Aviation Ministry while clearances were awaited from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Paramount will start services in Trichy – Chennai sector from July 13th.

Air India which had increased its frequency to make it a daily service on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Thiruvananthapuram-Sharjah sector, is seeking to operate the service all through the week in the return direction too.  The shortage of manpower in the Central Industrial Security Force, in charge of the airport’s security here, has been hampering the move.  The return flights of the airline now skips Tiruchi on three days (Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays) and flies directly to Chennai, as the CISF has not been able to make arrangements for providing security cover here. 

Ahem !! For all of us who always think it is the airlines that drag from introducing new services from Trichy. I was surprised to read the reason for the delay for more services is CISF.

Air India could also be looking to add more domestic and foreign destinations from Tiruchi, including Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Mumbai.

However, the plans are likely to be firmed up only after the merger process of the two national carriers are fully completed

Paramaount Airways is planning to operate twice a day service to chennai from Trichy and will be starting from mid July. The airline is in the process of setting up its office at the airport here and will operate the 70-seater Jet Embraer aircraft initially. The airways has already got clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.  Besides passenger traffic, the airline is also eyeing the cargo traffic from the central districts. Every day, Paramount flights carried 50,000 kg of cargo and it would leave no stone unturned to tap this market too, said the Managing Director of Paramount Airways M. Thiagarajan.

Mihin Lanka Ltd, will resume operations to 5 destinations including Trichy from mid July. They are launching the operations with a lease of A320 aircraft from France. Here is the flight Schedule from their site.
