The current postgraduate certificate programs offered by SAEIT in computational engineering, welding engineering and energy engineering are being upgraded to Postgraduate diplomas. SAEIT, jointly run by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi, are committed to upgraded this program to the full fledged degree courses in future.
The Press Release from SAEIT states
The last date for application for admission to the sixth batch of the all the three courses has been extended up to June 25 to give enough time for applicants from other States.
Application forms for the courses could be downloaded from the SAEIT’s website www.saeit-tiruchi.com
Admissions to the courses will be through an entrance test scheduled to be held at IIT, Madras on July 1. Interviews will be held at the same venue on July 1 and 2.
The requirements for various courses are like this :
Computational Engineering course is open to graduates, with first class, in mechanical, civil, production, automobile or aeronautical engineering.
Energy Engineering course is open to mechanical, chemical or energy engineering graduates.
Welding Engineering course is open for mechanical, metallurgical and production engineering graduates.
As the dependency of buses increase in this part of TN, more buses will be introduced and they will be cleaner also. The introduction of mechanised bus clean facility in Trichy will reduce the time to clean the buses from 30 min to 3 min. The impure water will be sent out as the brushes move from one part to another.
I am not sure how this helps the water conservation. Usually in this mechanised washing facilities, there will be a water recycling unit which will recycle the water for cleaning. But there is no mention of that anywhere. Does that mean, that we are wasting water and electricity to clean the buses. If it is , it will negate the benefits of labour savings and time savings.
We also know that barring new buses, all the other vehicles may not have sealed glass windows. If the windows are not sealed before washing, well, the passengers will have a wet ride.
Core engineering subjects, especially Mechanical and Civil, would have greater placements opportunities than Information Technology and Computer Science, said Jayaprakash Gandhi, Career Consultant in Career Guidance Programme organised in Trichy. The rationale is since software companies go for mass recruitments across branches, students of core engineering subject will have an edge over their computer and IT counterparts, when they seek jobs in engineering companies.
Other Salient points from his speech.
- The recruitment from aeronautical and biotechnology branches are stagnant for a long period of time.
- Multidisciplinary courses like aeronautical and biotechnology will fetch jobs only with postgraduate degrees.
- B. Tech. in Agriculture Information and Technology promises tremendous opportunities.
- The emerging fields other than engineering subjects were
- Geo Informatics,
- Material Sciences
- Pharmaceutical Engineering,
- Electro Chemical,
- Petroleum Refining,
- Petro Chemical,
- Metallurgy and
- Bio Medical Sciences

The outbreak of chikungunya in Kerala had prompted the corporation to take several precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak and spread of this painful disease in Trichy and surrounding areas. This disease which primarily spread through the mosquitoes makes the joints in the body weak and puts the patients in bed for three days atleast. The trichy authorities have intensified fogging activities on all the things that come from Kerala and also started to monitor the inflow of patients into the hospitals with symptoms. Last year was a very painful experiences for a lot of the people with this disease and hopefully is not repeated this year.
NO cases of chikungunya have been reported in any part of the district so far but the the village panchayats have been instructed to ensure that there was no water logging in their areas to prevent breeding of mosquitoes. Monitoring of fever cases from the Private Health Clinics, Government Hospitals and private nursing homes is being done on a daily basis since May to compare it with the last year’s trend and ascertain if there is any increase in the number of fever cases. Fogging operations have also been intensified in all wards to prevent any breeding of mosquitoes.
Trichy with its exponential growth is busting in its seams and requires some planned development for making some progress. As part of the plan, the city corporation is drawing out plans to improve infrastructure with a long term view of 30 years. As part of that plan, the Community Consulting India Private Limited, a private company entrusted with the task of improving infrastructure was looking at ways to improve Chattaram Bus Stand.
Anyone who has seen that place will agree that it is a standing example of how Chaos theory works in the practical world. From any direction ones looks at it, they cannot help wondering how any vehicle that goes in to that bus-stand area comes out. It is amazing how that works and now the city is trying to organize something in there. Let’s see how it works.
Good Luck !
Mihin Lanka is waiting for the final government route clearance before it starts its flights between Trichy and Columbo. It expects to get a piece of the busy route between UAE and Trichy. The airlines had bought 2 A310 aircrafts to cater to the additional passengers in ints system.
Karur, a small town 70 kms. from Trichy is generating a lot of income from Home furnishing exports and Trichy is playing its part in the commerce. Trichy has about 30 small scale industries with mechanized garment stitching units. A sections of exporters from Karur is regularly placing orders with them for towels, aprons, pillow covers and screens. Under the aegis of the STED ( Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development) Project, Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries’ Association helps them with loans and training on mechanized units. Each unit employs about 14 people mostly women. The number of export units that are stared are carefully controlled in order to keep the existing units profitable but more on their way.

Trichy has lots of great educational institutions which produce world class professionals and researchers in various fields which is one of the prime reason for IT companies looking towards Trichy. I also get a lots of inquiries in this blog for information on some institutions. So I googled around and tried to get the website addresses for our great institutions but it was not an easy task. Not many of them have a website to start with and if they do they are not visible to the search engines.
You can get this information here.
You can also access this webpage from the Menu item in the top of this blog.
If I do not have any institution which has a website , please forward me that web address and I will update the page.
Excellent Novel Radical ( EXNORA) is an international organisation whose actions raises the awareness of cleanliness among the public, was running a campaign to highlight importance of planting saplings, clean environment and the control of pollution in Trichy on World Environment Day.
It is a very noble effort and we have seen that cleanliness in the public places maintained by the Organisation goes up a notch. The volunteers distributed handbills carrying messages on the need to protect the environment to all public and private places and offices.
Increasing awareness is great among people. But one thing that we have to think about is how we do it. By handing out handbills to the public in thousands is just going to increase the clutter in streets because people are used to throw things on the road without any consciousness. Also, trying to protect the environment by using a tool ( paper) which actually is produced by destroying trees / forest sounds illogical.
May be they can have a big screen print banner in every public office / school and major thoroughfares which will catch the eye of the public but they will not have anything to throw away.
Will Exnora change its tactics of public Awareness. ?
We all know that when more people get together in a place , cleanliness always take a back seat, especially in India. One of those places is Railway stations. Now the Trichy Railway Division started a campaign where they will clean two stations in a month. In those stations where there were no cleaning staff, the station masters would be given funds to engage private labourers to keep the station premises clean. As part of the campaign, the Divisional Railway Manager distributed pamphlets containing messages on cleanliness to the passengers and there was a rally also with placards.
This is an idea with noble intention which I think is going to go the way of Exnora trying to clean up Trichy. It works in some places where there is cooperation from people but for the most part this will be only be a good marketing campaigns and good news headlines. It is in our interest as Tiruchians to do the best by playing by the civic rules so that all of them can be benefited by cleaner railway stations.
Next should be Bus stands.
