Trichy airport is getting a good attention from Airlines and Cargo Operators for a good reason. It’s central location in the state and its proximity to many industrial and Agriculture center is encouraging the businesses to utilize this airport regularly has prompted the AAI to request the State government for 1000 more acres to expand the airport complex.
A new terminal will be added which will be adjacent to the existing one ( handling 500 people) and the runway will expanded to 12500 feet to handle bigger aircrafts. A cargo handling facility also will be added to the airport. There is no mention of how many additional people it can handle. But I hope it will certainly be much more keeping in mind the rapid expansion of the city’s business climate.
Looking at the potential and the efforts to improve the terminal, Air India Express is looking at adding a new service to AbuDhabi from Trichy in a couple of months.
Stay Tuned. Exciting times are ahead.
May 16, 2007 at 12:19 AM
That’s great. There is a good potential for expanding and making it operational as a second major airport in Tamil Nadu. Tiruchi Airport is witnessing excellent response where the flights are booked including flights to international destinations. This is a happy news for all Tiruchians.
May 16, 2007 at 9:23 AM
Based on Dailythanthi and Dinakaran news, yesterday Trichy revenue and airport officials visited the land that AAI had requested for expansion. A meeting is scheduled today in chennai to discuss the details.
May 17, 2007 at 6:36 AM
The Trichy Airport Expansion news is amazing. We will soon expect the Second Air Facilities, next to Chennai, if it process as it is projected. Air India Express is doing fine with the increased traffic from & to Trichy ,Singapore. Is there any possibility of increasing services in this sector in near future? It will be very happy news to all Trichians.

Airindia express is expected to start services to both Abudhabi and Kuala Lampur pretty soon. While Trichy-AD route has received the green signal, Trichy-KL route request has been rejected by the Malaysian government against the spirit of the bilateral agreements between the two countries.
DGCA has sent a notice out to the malaysian government stating why malaysian airlines should not be barred entry in to indian air space in return for airlines from india being denied landing rights in KL.
Lets keep our finger crossed.
May 17, 2007 at 3:00 PM
It is really pathatic that malaysian government for the second time refused landing rights to an indian flight. Earlier it had rejected AirShara flight from Delhi to KL and DGCA had written a similar letter and after which the issue was resovled. I am not sure if malaysian government is doing this to cover malaysian airlines and Airasia.
Mihin Lanka is expected to start its services as soon it gets the approval from the DGCA and this should happen by end of this month.
AI Express will start additional services to singapore, dubai and new services as soon as the Apron work is atleast completed. Currently AIE flights are parked in the old runway to load and off-load passgengers as there is no Apron for big aircraft. From the old runway the aircraft is towed to the main runway. AIE fears that if the towing machine could breakdown if it used often due to increase of flights. It brokedown once and due to which the singapore-trichy flight was delayed 4 hours to avoid blocking of the main runway (between 11am and 3 pm most of the flights use the runwasy) as main runway was used to off-load the passengers.
May 18, 2007 at 12:48 PM
May 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s low cost airline – Mihin Lanka – will include two additional destinations to India by the end of this month.
The airline is awaiting the final route clearance from India, and with its newly acquired A321 aircraft, the airline will begin flights to Trivandrum and Trichy, sources said.
This aircraft can accommodate 194 passengers and would be used to fly to both new destinations. With these additional routes to India, Mihin Lanka would have additional traffic from Indian expatriate workers based in the United Arab Emirates. These workers can take connections from Dubai to Colombo and then fly out to Trivandrum or Trichy.

May 20, 2007 at 5:43 AM
Yes ofcourse its a good news that indian is starting its new service till now all flights were on the way to TRV and sharjah so it was delayed most of the time but this new sector is only domestic flight which we can expect on time arr and dep. Airindia chennai – trichy fares are low but this sector is not getting full because Still people are not aware of the fare that including tax its just only Rs.1100 and the frequency of this sector would increase as the abudhabi sector is going to start which will be starting from chennai. However this is surely a good news for all in trichy. Let’s move ahead with cheers.
May 20, 2007 at 7:29 AM
Surely it is a good news that finally there is a morning flight to chennai. These days the chennai-trichy Indian flights seems to be full and also the AIE chennai-trichy flights are atleast full once a week after the fare was reduced to Rs99+taxes. I assume people have started taking advantage of the service.I hope the new Indian service get good response.
May 20, 2007 at 6:14 PM
Are there any reason why Jet Airways is not interested in starting service to Trichy?
May 20, 2007 at 6:20 PM
Its amazing to know how fast DGCA has given clearance for Indian to start Chennai-Trichy service while Kingfisher is waiting for the pas 2 months to get the clearence from DGCA? I am clueless!!!!

I am happy about more flight from chennai
Why Indian airlion not oprating Trichy to Mumbay to Delhi
May 21, 2007 at 1:58 PM
why indian airlines not oprating trichy to colombo
May 21, 2007 at 2:00 PM
why kingfisher not oprating trichy to chennai ??????????
May 21, 2007 at 6:01 PM
I assume Kingfisher didnt get approval from DGCA. May be Chennai didnt have slots due to summer.
I think this is good and KingFisher should try to operate either early morning or in the evening because there are already 3 flights to Trichy by Indian , AIE and AirDeccan between 11:30 Am and 1:30 PM.
May 22, 2007 at 9:08 AM
The Malaysian government hesitation in granting AIE to operate Trichy-Kuala Lumpur route is rather absurd, just because Malaysian airlines has since been planning to operate this sector for the past 2 years but with no effect till now.
Well, hope the respective parties involved will help resolve the current problems soon, in which case, will be a win-win situations for all.
May 24, 2007 at 6:00 AM
You need to note , right at the spree of of budget carriers warming up this regions , Malaysian Airlines has been severly hit by no frills flyers , due to this it has set to undergo major turnaround strategy to post its financial figures back into black. MAS is said to be one of the carrier which has been long awaited to get its entry to Trichy . But DGCA has not given its nod yet , In contrary Malaysian Civial Aviation has given landing rights to Indian , Air India , Jet Airways , Air Sahara etc .
We cannot be magnanimous in terms, but how can we expect others to be , the issue is not only surmounted to this. If you look into the palm oil imports into India , 75% of its cosumption are originated from Malaysia .The import duty for palm oil derivatives into India is said to be 70% But the same palm oil if it enters to India via Sri Lanka by means of so called value addition it is subjected only for 3% Duty.
I ask you one question , why we need to empathise on country where our fellow people has been discriminated and we give instant approval of landing rights to Mihin Airlines , which has been recently filed approval with DGCA .
Furthermore our politicains and policy makers make a foul cry to reduce inflation . But why can’t they condider reducing tariff for Palm Oil for direct imports from originating countries . This will reduce the overall landing cost and which would be of much useful to Oleo chemical Industries , Biscuit and Confectionery manufacturers , Soap Makers ,Restuarants , Sweet mfrs, Lubricant mfrs etc. to reduce the over all cost of manufacturing

Srilankan Airline planning for 2 daily flight to Trichy.
http://www.hindu.com/2007/05/24/stories/2007052405720500.htm
May 24, 2007 at 3:13 PM
It was MAS which dropped the plan to operate to Trichy in 2005 due its financial problems and wouldnt blame DGCA for this.
Here is what the Indian Offical has to say about the Malaysian government rejecting landing rights to Indian Carriers.
“There was some misunderstanding. We did not issue any ban but we did ask why the two airlines were not allowed to land in Malaysia under the Asean agreement,” said the senior director who declined to be named.
The official said MAS would be allowed to continue its regular daily flights to the four Indian cities — Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai — as well as unlimited flights to 18 other Indian destinations.
“We have not reduced any frequency of MAS (flights). In fact we welcome them. It helps our tourism,” he added.

Please see the Indian Express news (25.5.07), Tiruchy Edition.
Tiruchy Airport’s claim to No.2 spot in Tamil Nadu. With major international airlines operators like Oman Airways, Air Arabia and Malaysian airlines evincing keen interest to launch their services from Tiruchy to various destinations. Tirucdhy airport is emerging as the second major interantional airport in the State, next to Chennai.
According to Mr.Sreekumar, Airport Director, Tiruchy, that the state of the art new terminal building for Tiruchy would be ready by June 2008. The new terminal building will feature steel and glass structure, the first of its kind in southern region like the Srinagar Airport and Mumbai airport will be getting ready.
The new terminal building will be having a facilitiy to handle 500 passengers in one hour. Once expansion works completed, bigger aircraft like Airbus 321 and Boeing 737 could bbe parked numbering 7 aircrafts.
The airport authority accepted in principle to extend further the runway with 4500 feet.
These are all good news for Tiruchians.
May 25, 2007 at 3:01 PM
AAI should prioritize the Trichy Airport construction work. They should give importance to Apron extension work.
AIE had said that additional flights to dubai and singapore and new services would happen after the Apron is extended. The AIE flights are currently parked in the old runway as the existing Apron cant hold big aircrafts. This could be one of the reasons why other operators are hesitant to start serives to Trichy.
Trichy airport has already lost 2 valuable years due late commission of extended runway. The runway project was started late 2003 and completed in early 2007. This really impacted the growth of Trichy Airport and Trichy as a whole. Also it allowed other airports to grow.
Hope AAI would be steadfast and prioritize the construction work based on the current requirement.
May 26, 2007 at 5:00 AM
The problems in developing Trichy airport does not lie on AAI alone. It’s the politicians, who play the games as and when politically motivated. For example, if Madurai were to hold an election before the actual general election, then whoever the candidates of the political party, would voice or promise many benefits or improvements, so as to win the hearts and minds of the voters of that district at that particular moment. Thus, affecting whatever similar other major projects in the process, particular, within nearby surrounding districts.
Well, would wish and hope, that current Trichy airport planned developments will not be affected in the forthcoming Madurai West by-election.
May 27, 2007 at 4:21 AM
hi maran what are you telling i cant understand at all
May 27, 2007 at 6:07 AM
Hi adhil, the message is simple. Trichy airport initial runway extension was started in mid-2003, and supposed to be completed by end 2004. But, unfortunately has been delayed for varied reasons, and since, generally completed at beginning 2007, and yet, it is still to be fully completed, thus, forcing AIE to unable to operate daily flights to Dubai and Singapore, as well as, planned operation to Abu Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur in the process. In addition, also affecting many major foreign airlines to start its operation here as well.
One of the main reason here for such undue delay is a forgone conclusion. While Trichy airport runway being extended, during which time, local district officials from the various political parties in Madurai were toilling hard to have the international connection at Madurai airport, instead of Trichy. Nevertheless, they have not given up hope yet, and still working hard for opportunities to have the International connections at Madurai airport somehow.
Therfore, hope that we Trichians will be equally determine to keep the International status for Trichy airport for many many years to come. CHEERS TRICHY and VAZGHA TRICHY.

May 28, 2007 at 2:48 AM
I dont want to get into the politics of it. But ,it really sad to see Trichy is being ignored by successive governments and more specifically the local representatives eventhough we have enough resources and potential.
May 28, 2007 at 10:18 AM
YES MR.KUMAR U’R CORRECT. EVENTHOUGH TRICHY HAS MORE REPRESENTATIVES IN THE CABINET.MR.K.N.NEHRU, MR.RAJA, MR.RAGUPATHI AND MR.L.GANESAN BUT UNFORTUNATELY NO ONE IS UNITED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRICHY. IF RANGARAJAN KUMARAMANGALAM IS ALIVE, TRICHY GOT THE STATUS OF INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND MORE SERVICES 2 YEARS BACK. NO MINISTERS TRIED TO MAKE TRICHY AS THE 2ND CAPITAL OF TAMILNADU. THEY DIDN’T KNOW THE POTENTITAL AND INFRASTRUCTURE OF TRICHY. IT’S VERY PATHETIC. BUT THE SITUATION IN MADURAI IS DIFFERENT. THERE ARE LOT OF POLITICAL PRESSURE TO MAKE MADURAI AS A INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT EVEN THERE IS NO INTERNATIONAL CONNECTION IS SO FAR PROVIDED. LET TIRUCHIANS SHOULD UNITE AND MAKE IT TRICHY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND GET MORE INTERNATIONAL SERVICES
May 28, 2007 at 12:04 PM
I remember only Mr. Rengaraja Kumaramangalam drew some good plans for the developement of trichy. But after him, no one cared for trichy.
Trichy has good educational institituions and industrial base, but in past few years how many big companies have come to trichy?
It has good transport network, but not much happened in tranport sector – no new direct trains from trichy to delhi/mumbai/hyd etc. Even blore – there is only 1 train that too from other destination.
Industrialists, business people, governement officers and of course politicans should cooperate to develop trichy. You can see this in case of chennai. Chennai aleardy saturated, is daily getting some new projects – recently IT SEZ, Non renewable SEZ etc.
In fact – our discussions doesnt make much difference, but I hope it will create some impact.
May 28, 2007 at 4:43 PM
Yes, Mr.Kumaramangalam who was from Salem(correct me if I am wrong) had plans to develop Trichy and infact he got the approval for the 4 bridges including the palakkarai bridge that was opened after 7 years. Trichy as always was unlucky and lost him and things didnt move forward. On the otherside there was no much development under Mr.Adaikalaraj who represented Trichy for 2 decades.
We should really appreciate CII,Trichy for their efforts in developing Trichy. They are the one who pushed hard along with AAI for the development of Trichy airport and also starting small industries around Trichy.

It is useless blaming the politicians. Why should we meet the central and state represntatives and convey our thoughts and ideas. If anyone is ready to do so plz mail me to.. ring_me_to_9994265574@yahoo.com…or call me to 9994265574.. we shall go and meet mr K.N.Nehru or mr.L.Ganesan.

In this website, I have already listed our appeal for making Tiruchy Airport more passenger friendly with infrastructures needed. I could not trace the page now. Can anyone find it and send the same to Mr.Premkumar for the representation with ministers. The requirements were based on the apprehensions about Tiruchy Airprot and also appreciation about Tiruchy Airport Authorities sent by Tiruchians. Mr.Ramkumar can you help in this regard.

I am attaching your response text also here.

Dear All,
I would like to compile all the positive and negative aspects of Tiruchi International Airport here. We can send both to the Airport Authorities, if it would be welcomed by all of you.
Some salient features of Tiruchi International Airport
1. Tiruchi is the gateway of Tamil Nadu as it is centrally located.
2. Tiruchi International Airport is fast growing and many international airlines are coming forward to start their operations for international destinations.
3. The recently introduced flights to Singapore and Dubai is getting excellent response more than as it was expected. i.e. Dubai flight booked for two months full and Singapore flight (AIE) booked for one month.
4. Tiruchi Airport being situated at the heart of Tamil Nadu many people living in and around Tiruchi district are finding Tiruchi as their easiest place for travel to and fro.
5. Tiruchi Airport current runway is being expanded to handle large flight operations
As a result more international flights will operate flights from Tiruchi.
6.Tiruchi Airport is one of the 176 international Airports where wifi network for free access to the internet is made available.
7. Tiruchi Airport could become the seocnd biggest airport in Tamil Nadu next to Chennnai.
8. Presently, Tiruchi Airport is handling around 9 flights a day and more than 1000 passengers. The new terminal building once completed and the runway expanded (12500 ft. ?), more facilities could be offered to the passengers.
9. As IT Tidel Park and other international companies are coming to start their business in and around Tiruchi, in the future it will become one of the important cities in Tamil Nadu.
10. Tiruchi is one of the important destinations for pilgrim centres which attract many tourists from abroad to Tiruchi. i.e. Rockfort, Srirangam, Tanjore, Rameswaram.
11. Tiruchi is one of the industrial areas where several factories and industries are established and boost the economy of Tiruchi if it would be connected with many more cities in India by airlines.
12. Traditinally, people are settled in abroad like Malaysia, Singapore and elsewhere. They are basically from Tiruchi and surrounding Districts. Many youths are getting jobs abroad both for IT industry and other technical jobs.
Suggestions for better improvement in Tiruchi International Airport
1. As Tiruchians, we appreciate the Airport authorities in Tiruchi International Airport for making Tiruchi as the international hub of operations wherein more facilities are provided and airline operators are coming forward.
2. Please ensure that no fees are charged from the passengers for trolley as some of the workers in Tiruchi Airport are demanding for wages to bring the trolleys or arrange for baggages transport.
3. We heard that some of the employees in Tiruchi Airport is taking some consumer products and telling that it would not be allowed in the flight.
4. People from international flights once landed in Tiruchi, they are unnecessarily asked many questions.
5. Officials in Tiruchi Airport are asking irrelevant questions about their passport details which embarrassing the passengers. When the ordinary people who go for employment opportunities asked for many questions on their passport and visa, they afraid of Tiruchi Airport.
6. Hence, many travel agencies and placement agencies are don’t want to send their clients through Tiruchi Airport. They are directed to take flights from Chennai as it will be easier with less procedures for going abroad.
7. The passengers of Tiruchi International Airport wanted polite and friendly atmosphere in Tiruchi Airport.
8.More guidances are required for new passengers who go for the first time abroad.
9.Pre-paid taxi facilities could be made available to reach Tiruchi City.
10.A guidance board can be displayed to avail accommodations in and around Tiruchi with accommodation charges details etc.,
11. A map could be displayed at the outside of terminal building with km. details, pilgrim centres, important places in Tiruchi like the industries, companies etc.,
12. For getting the above facility, we could motivate the local textile shop owners, hospital, hotel owners, jwellery mart owners to offer free contributions as public-private partnership.
13. Please provide good parking facilities, tree cover and sitting arrangements in the parking area.
14.Drinking water facility outside the terminal building could be provided.
15. Toilet facilities outside the terminal building for the guests who are waiting at the parking area could be provided.
16. The Tiruchi based Travel agencies, recruitment agencies and frequent travellers of Tiruchi Airport could be invited for face to face discussions on better improvement of Tiruchi Airport arranged. This is already arranged but what is requested at frequent intervals.
Hi Tiruchians, These are all compiled over the comments about Tiruchi Airprot received from all of you. I have added few more points both positive as well as suggestions for imrpovement. Please correct me if there are anything wrongly spelt out here and add more comments on both aspects. If anyone of our readers volunteer yourself for making the above points more readable in a friendly and official way, you are welcome.
June 6, 2007 at 11:07 AM
I already sent an email to Premkumar intimating that the details of the suggestions for improvement of Tiruchi Airport is available at the Tiruchian website for making representations to Ministers and other officials. I could lot of progress is made with regard to the construction work of new terminal building and other building infrastructures for improving passengers/guests amenities at the Tiruchi Airport. The works are progressing very fast with regard to construction part of the improvment.

The farmers are unhappy with the compensation package offered by the authorities concerned, prior to 1000 acres planned procurement for Trichy airport expansion.
Hence, has been hearing, that the farmers are demanding more than the market rate, in lieu of major industrialisation proposed around those areas as well.
Well, these farmers are gonna having a jackpot time now.

After opening ATM at Trichy Airport couple of days before, Canara bank will be installing ATMs in railway stations under Trichy Division. Indian bank and SBI have already ATMs installed in Trichy.
The bank’s Circle Office, here, will set up the ATMs at Tiruchi Fort, Tiruchi Town, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Adhiramapattinam, Aduthurai, Neyveli and Panruti railway stations. The bank has paid a sum of Rs.6.60 lakh as licence fee to the Railway authorities towards establishment of ATMs.
The eight ATMs would become functional before the end of the current financial year, the bank’s Deputy General Manager, S. Nagarajan said.
The bank has also planned to set up ATMs at Tiruchi Junction, Puducherry, Tiruvannamalai and Salem Town railway stations.
Mr. Nagarajan said that the facility at the Tiruchi Junction would become operational in a month’s time
June 22, 2007 at 4:32 PM
TIRUCHI: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has requested the State Government to allot about 1,000 acres of land for the next phase of airport expansion here.
With Tiruchi proving its potential through overwhelming response to new air services to Singapore and Dubai by Air India Express, the focus has shifted to the next stage of development.
Apart from a further extension of the runway, construction of a cargo complex and hangars are also planned.
The AAI has given “in principal” clearance for extending the airport’s runway by another 4,500 feet. The runway was recently extended from 6,100 ft to 8,000 ft on an investment of about Rs. 26 crore.
The cargo complex is a budgeted project and the sanction for the runway extension would be obtained once the State Government hands over the land, sources said. Once the runway is extended to 12,500 ft., Tiruchi would emerge as a major hub for cargo movement.
The project would hinge on how fast the Government acquires land. The State Government is expected to provide the land free of cost.
Air operators are upbeat over the growth potential for passenger traffic and cargo movement from here.
They feel that Tiruchi Airport would emerge as the second major international airport in the State after Chennai.
A new state-of-the-art terminal building, sanctioned at a cost of Rs.75 crore, is coming up adjacent to the existing one. The terminal building with a capacity to handle about 500 passengers, would have modern amenities and two aerobridges. The new terminal would be ready by the middle of next year, sources said.
Meanwhile, Air India Express is tipped to be exploring the possibilities of introducing additional flights and new routes, possibly Abu Dhabi, over the next couple of months.
June 22, 2007 at 4:42 PM
New Delhi: Many airlines are lining up to begin operations from the southern city as the Rs 26 crore extension work at the Tiruchirapalli International Airport have completed.
Air India Express has approached the airport with plans to launch operations on the Tiruchi-Dubai and Tiruchi-Singapore sectors, airport Director S Sreekumar told PTI in Tiruchirapalli.
The airlines, to use the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, would commence operations from March 26, he said.
While Malaysian Airlines had approached AAI last year with plans to operate direct services to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, Kingfisher Airlines has also showed interest to introduce services to Chennai and other destinations.
Oman Airways is also keen to launch services to Gulf countries and Air Arabia had carried out market survey in and around Tiruchirappalli, Sreekumar said.
The Rs 26 crore project to expand the runway to 8,000 feet from 6,100 feet began in March 2004 and after obtaining certification from the Airport Authority of India this month, the Tiruchirappalli airport could now handle wider-bodied aircraft such as the Boeing 737s, he added.
Further extension of the runway to 12,500 feet has been approved by the AAI and would be implemented when the state government acquires the requisite land, he said.
The airport is in the process of constructing of a new Air Terminal complex, after it acquired 50 acre of land from the state government, Sreekumar added.
AAI is hopeful to commission the new Air Terminal before end of 2008, he said.
Canopies at arrival area, extended aprons to house two to three aircrafts at a time, installation of public announcement systems, control towers fitted with modern gadgets and clamping of Electronic Flight Plan Filing System are also being worked out simultaneously as part of the modernisation efforts of the Trichy Airport, he added.

What is the latest news in Trichy aviation and is there any new flights will come to trichy
June 23, 2007 at 9:22 AM
Hi Adhil, while boasting about Trichy airport’s potential developments, there is a storm brewing on the background,(please check the undermentioned link), with which, I had already mentioned in my earlier messages in this blog, that the Madurai Airport may overshadow Trichy Airport, in being converted to a major international airport, and forming as a gateway to the south destinations. Well, this is politics. Feel sorry for Trichy and Tiruchians, and yet, would still wish and hope, that Trichy will emerge as a major International Airport, next to Chennai. GOOD LUCK TRICHY.

don’t worry maran Madurai cannot overtake Trichy in this matter. Normally Dinamalar daily gives importance to Madurai only and they need not worry about the development of other districts. By this year end New Terminal will be ready and we expect more destinations from Trichy such as Abudhabi, Doha, Kulalumpur etc. By georaphical location Trichy plays an important role in this regard. Now Mr.Raja from Perambalur constituency gets the nod in the cabinet. I hope Mr.Raja woud concentrate in bringing more connections to Tiruchy and getting more IT Companies for Tiruchy

around 30,000 passangers used Trichy airport in the month of April’07.International passangers-21857 and local passangers around 7500-total no of aircraft movements 414 compared to 568 by Madurai. Madurai has also handled 30000passangers. More important is that madurai has more services than Trichy. if Trichy has more than 500 aircraft movements it overtakes Coimbatore . please use to see the following link
http://www.aai.aero/traffic_news/apr2k7annex3.pdf
It is all time high in the history of Trichy Airport. If more connections available around 50000passangers per month is possible
June 29, 2007 at 1:07 PM
On the downside, Air Deccan has been operating skeleton service for the past couple of months and now it has cancelled it service to Trichy due to operational reasons. I dont understand why an operator would cancel it flights if Trichy-Chennai sector has good repsonse?
June 29, 2007 at 4:34 PM
AIE has proposed to start daily services to Dubai and Singapore, and is currently, awaiting clearance from DGCA. Maybe, expect to be cleared and start daily services by mid-July.
Well, soon Trichy airport will be bustling with activities with the start of other Mihin Lanka services here as well.

####### VERY IMPORTANT#################### all you guys please listen , i m happy that all of you are eager in seeing trichy become a major city in s.india but sorry to say that is not going to happen, is because TRICHY CITY IS CURRENTLY NOT UNDER THE SCHEME CALLED jawaharlal nehru urban renewal mission OF THE CENTRAL GOVT. WHEREAS CHENNAI MADURAI AND COIMBATORE ARE INCLUDED IN THIS SCHEME AND have ALREADY GOT NEARLY 4000 CRORES EACH FOR THEIR URBAN DEVELOPMENT SCHEME. SO IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS THAT TRICHY DOES NOT HAVE SO MUCH FUNDS FOR ITS DEVELOPMENT AND NO POLITICIAN LOBBIES TO INCLUDE TRICHY IN THA SCHEME. HOPE WE TAKE SOME STEPS IN THIS VERY SERIOUS MATTER.
June 29, 2007 at 6:52 PM
Trichy doesnt have basic requirement of 10 lacs population to be part of the JNURM project.
But even then Trichy Mayor is trying to add Trichy to JNURM by asking centre to include the floating population. But, currently there is freeze on adding any city to that project. Unless we have big push from our chief minister, its tought to add Trichy to JNURM.
June 29, 2007 at 6:57 PM
wat u said is right but there are cities in that scheme which have poplution below ten lakhs for ex. pondicherry. but can u tell any efforts taken by us and the politicians….. they made such a fuss over 100 crore trichy govt. hospital upgradation… if such a pressure is created now is not possible to include trichy in that scheme..
June 30, 2007 at 1:01 AM
Yes. You are all right about Tiruchi is not included in JNURM scheme. The person heading the Central Government as Joint Secretary is Mr.Rajamani from Dinidigul. There are another official is also from Tamil Nadu who is working in the same office. The Tiruchi Mayor is doing all her efforts to get this scheme sanctioned for Tiruchi. I think there is some hope in getting this scheme.
But on the other hand, Tiruchi won’t be affected with its growth in the aviation sector. I was really exciting to see that in the month of April alone, 30000 passengers used Tiruchi Airport. It shows the good demand and potential exists in Tiruchi for further improvement. I hope that Tiruchi Airport would be in the top three Airports in Tamil Nadu perhaps second next to Chennai Airport in terms of its passenger handling.
Hi All Tiruchians Be a Happy and Proud persons of the historical city.

It has already forcasted by the US consultants about 3 years ago, hired by the AAI, to study the potential of Trichy airport, with which, has given a positive outlook report in general terms.
Hence, after which, AAI with the support of local Trichy, Perumbalur and Tanjavur district officials and representatives, started with the building of World Class Terminal building and other main infrastructures of Trichy Airport, despite, some opposition from the other southern district party officials.
Therefore, the point here on Trichy Airport developments into World Class International Airport, as well as, Trichy city in general, basically lies on the ruthless and selfish politicians, rather than in the interest of Trichy and or, Tamil Nadu in general perspect.

Hi Trichians,
The Trichy will develop provided when there is a direct flight to reach your city all of us to decide to make use of the facility irrespective of tkt availablity and urgency.how many of you to agree with idea. We all plan our trip in the last minute and look for various option to reach early. This we cannot change, any be happy Trichy is slowly progressing although the the 1st international flight to srilanka started in 1960 and no progress till 2005.
We have been discussing various issue on this web site, Unless we involve the people holding power to view this site, all oue effort are waste.
I know the ministers without any qualification will never have time and understand oue problems,
Atleast we will make our Trichy Collector to be aware of this site so that he can take it up our request to concerned people.
June 30, 2007 at 3:49 PM
Whether you like it or not, Tiruchi Airport will be very familiar in the next two to three years. Whether will there be any resistance or support, no one can prevent the genuine growth of Tiruchi Airport. Tiruchi is having high potential from the surrounding districts and definetly it will serve the needy persons. There are some vested interest people who try to divert the facilities, there are some problematic officials who don’t want to support Tiruchi Airport development. There are some politicians who don’t like Tiruchi be the major airport. Nevertheless, Tiruchi will overcome all the hurdles and catch the main place in the aviation sector in Tamil Nadu and India.
Proud to be a Tiruchian, as Tamilian and Indian.

Corporation hopes to get Rs.31 crore
Special Correspondent
From Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme
TIRUCHI: The Corporation’s efforts to get the city included under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) appears to have made little headway. The civic body is now pinning its hopes on getting funds from the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) this year.
Though the elected representatives of the Corporation, especially the Mayor, Sarubala R. Tondaiman, have been trying to include Tiruchi under the JNNURM, official sources concede that the chances are slim as the Urban Development Ministry has put a freeze on the cities taken up for development under the project.
Tiruchi failed to qualify as it did not meet the minimum population requirement of 10 lakhs.
However, Ms.Tondaiman has been arguing that Tiruchi’s floating population, especially the devotees thronging Srirangam, should be taken into account. Currently, the population is just over eight lakhs. She had been taken up the issue with the State and Central Ministers.
“No foresightedness”
A senior district official observed that the Corporation had failed to act with foresightedness on the issue. Several parts in the outskirts of the city, especially the Tiruverambur/ Thuvakudi region which includes BHEL Township, could have been brought under the Corporation.
Tiruverambur, till recently a town panchayat, was just upgraded into a Grade III Municipality. If only the Corporation had pushed through a proposal a couple of years ago, it would have easily qualified for the JNNURM project, he said.
Meanwhile, the proposals forwarded by the Corporation seeking about Rs.31 crore under the UIDSSMT, did not get through in time last year and are likely to be cleared this year.
Solid waste management programmes, construction of stormwater drains, strengthening of roads, creation of parking lots, development of heritage centres and repairs to water sources are some of the works planned to be taken up utilising the funds.

Mihin Lanka, a budget-cum-premium airline launched by the Sri Lankan Government in April, is spreading its wings to Thiruvananthapuram.
The airline is commencing daily services between Colombo and Thiruvananthapuram as well as Trichy on Sunday. There will also be connection flights to Dubai from Colombo every day.
“Our fares are about 50 percent less compared to the other airlines. In every service, a few seats would be reserved as premium class,” Mihin Lanka chief executive officer and coordinating secretary at the office of the Sri Lankan President Sajin de Vass Gunawardena told reporters on Thursday.
The Thiruvananthapuram-Dubai (via Colombo) flight will leave here at 12.15 pm and reach Dubai at 8 pm local time. The one-way fare in the sector is Rs 5,520 and the two-way fare Rs 12,225. The baggage allowed will be 30 kg a passenger.
The Thiruvananthapuram-Colombo one-way fare is Rs 1,655 and two-way Rs 3,650. The baggage allowed is 100 kg.
“At present, we are also operating to destinations such as Male and Bangkok and are planning to spread our wings to Kochi and Chennai by August. More destinations, including Kozhikode, will be covered in due course,” Gunawardena said.
Meals and snacks will be provided in the budget class. Liquor and additional food items are available at extra cost inside the flights. The airline is using Air Bus 320 and 321 aircraft.

Tiruchirappalli, July 2: Sri Lankan budget carrier Mihin Lanka has launched its daily service on the Colombo – Tiruchirappalli – Colombo sector.
The inaugural flight landed at the airport here yesterday morning.
The flight would leave Colombo at 6 a.m. and arrive here by 7 a.m. The return flight would be at 7.45 a.m. which would reach Colombo at 8.45 a.m., the airline sources said.
Mihin Lanka has announced a baggage limit of 100 kg instead of the usual 40 kg or 50 kg to target the small traders doing business in the island nation.
The airline, which would fly Airbus-320 in the sector, also promised better connectivity to Bangkok, Dubai and Maldives from Colombo.
This was the fourth budget airline to operate from Tiruchi airport after Air India Express, Air Deccan and Kingfisher.
Airport sources said low cost Air Arabia also has evinced interest in operating from here and the services were expected to commence soon.
Malaysian Airlines has made a market survey and decided to operate from Tiruchi after the completion of the new air terminal complex which was under construction, airport sources added. (Agencies)

Adhil, Thanks for sharing this great news. It is indeed happy to see all the developments that took place in Tiruchi Airport.

Has Silk Air dropped plans for Trichy? Surprising, since, officials from Silk Air came visiting Trichy airport, sometime in 2004, and express interest in operating there, once the runway extension is complete. Maybe, I think could be using low cost carrier Tiger airways to connect Trichy instead? Definitely, Singapore government would not want to miss the opportunity in connecting to Trichy, since, command immense potential traffic.

Compliant on AIE,
Most of the passengers are very unhappy on PULI CHATHAM ” TRADE MARK OF AIE” being served on Trichy-Singapore-Trichysector.
We cannot call AIE as a budget airline because the fare being charged for budget airline is very high. Now they have been exposed after TIGER AIRWAYS declared their fare structure .It is really surprising to note that our own national carriers are cheating us.
July 9, 2007 at 6:24 AM
PULI SADAM in AIE. YES , I am fully agree with Raja. On 30th May on my onward journey to Chennai and also the return journey on 12th june Chennai – Singapore sector, we had the same, cold PULI SADAM. The AIE Facility department seems to be mind fixed about this.
I want to express my another shocking experience with other TRUCHIAN
The passengers are also seems to be least interested in keeping the fleet inside clean. While diembarking in Chennai I could not believe my eyes, that the the fleet floor was untidy with papers, sanitary bags, food items, juice empty packets were scattered. Thecabin crews were disinterested / reluctant in to collect the items after the usage.(Second time). The same experience I had on my return journey to Singapore.
Is this the condition of our so called Budget Airlines.? Will AIE will be among the best in Budget Airline.? Can they stay in this challenges put forth by the other Budget Airlines.
I don’t know. But it is everybody’s wish that AIE should be competetive, friendly and best Budget Airlines. Wait & see.

I travelled from Tiruchi – Chennai IC 590 at 7.40 a.m. yesterday. The flight arrived from Sharjah on time at 7 a.m. The flight took off at 8 a.m. At 8.20 a.m. it flew over Bay of Bengal where one could see coastal region until it reaches Chennai airport which is really fantastic. The breakfast was really nice with sambar idly, fruit salads, cake with bottled water. I think the freshment supplied by Indian has slightly improved.
I frequently travelling Tiruchi – Bangalore – Tiruchi sector by Kingfisher Airlines. The food provided by Kingfisher airlines is really superb with vegetarian and non-vegetarian. A few weeks before, they introduced small digital TVs where they are showing flight information and some stories from our television media. The small TV appear at the time of take of and landing and closes into the flight roof after performance over. Kingfisher airlines is keeping its time schedule where most of the time it is ontime.

Hi Kumar, wondering on the problems of Trichy Airport, particularly, staffs in general. Don’t the AAI makes proper planning before venturing into the expansion programme of Trichy airport? OR is it another vested political involvement? Well, God knows.
Next, the picture on the airport expansion, seems to be old, since, I’ve just arrived recently, in seeing a fully completed front facade of the airport.
July 16, 2007 at 8:36 AM
I really dont have the answer. My guess is ,AAI didnt anticipate the growth this soon. With huge reponse to the flights and pressure from the operators to start additional and new services.
We hope AAI really acts fast.

Anybody can tell me the Kingfihser airlines response to Bangalore ? Is it well patronised by the Tiruchians?
July 16, 2007 at 4:24 PM
Kingfisher Tiruchi – Bangalore sector is recieving moderate response. The seats are occupied between 50% – 75% occassionally it gets full capacity. But the Kingfisher airline is very prompt in service including good entertainment DVD programmes and refreshment and caring of passengers inflight.

In the month of May’07 Trichy airport handles 34000 people against 424 aircraft movements comparing to 36000people against 620 aircraft movements by Madurai Airport. Local Passangers crosses 10000mark all time high in the history of trichy airport. It indicates if 620 aircraft movements in Trichy it will handle 60000 to 75000 people in a month.

Well. surely now, Trichy airport is on it’s way to be the second major International Airport of Tamil Nadu state, after Chennai. Hopefully, this will draw the attention of Tamil Nadu government, in expediting the expansion programme of Trichy airport, including acquiring of 1000 acres, in the overall growth of Trichy city, as well as, Central, Easterly, Westerly and southern districts, since, paving the way in attracting both the local and foreign investors to these regions, in bringing about a better living standard.
Hence, A Big Thanks to AAI and the Central government, for all their initiatives and effort in making this possible.

Hi friends, Can any one tell how many flights from and to trichy for a week? If pos pls provide a schedule. Any Water theme park for trichy? Thanks.
August 13, 2007 at 3:30 AM
Hi Friends,
Last week I was in Trichy form 4th August to 10th August, took flight form Singapore – Trichy Air India Express. The journey was fine, less teadius. On return , the flight shall be made from Trichy to Singapore without touching Chennai, because 90% of the passengers are from Trichy to Singapore. I hope the AIE authorities will consider this matter.
The improvement in the Airport infrastructure is note worthy. Very soon we will be landing in a full fledged Airport. The runway work, Arrival and Departure hall works are going on in fast space.
The immigration is improved, more than Five officers are attending at a time to clear the process. But the Luggage / baggage section need to be given full attention, since it is still in a very bad shape and looks nothing has been done.
The Air port Rest Rooms (latrines) are in a very bad shape, foul smell, no water, no care taker ,no cleaning and nobody bothers about this malfunctioning. I can’t find any responsible officer to make a remark.
While spending a good amount of effort and money to bring Trichy into a world class international Airport, it will be incomplete task, unless the authorities shall pay firm attention to improve these rest rooms facilities. It is an environment issue, which is to be attended immediately.
Will the Trichy Airport Maintenance / Authorities will take a note of it , work for the “Environmental Friendly Rest Rooms”?
The “Environmental Friendly Rest Rooms” should not be neglected since it preserves the image of the City, People to the Tourist and helps in proclaiming the Clean Campain.

Air India Express (AIE) operating service on almost every day from Singapore – Trichy and Trichy – Singapore except Sunday.
Two flights from AIE fly from Trichy to Singapore (via Chennai).
September 5, 2007 at 9:02 AM
Hi guys, silkair is still contemplating to start Coimbatore service, after receiving several feedback from the public, on the recent annoucement made by silkair to fly Coimbatore directly from Singapore.
Hence, might consider to connect Singapore to Coimbatore via Trichy instead. But, the only concern will be the Indian authorities’ interest, to allow silkair to operate such route arrangements.
Well, any which way, silkair will confirm the above shortly.
In the meanwhile, Singapore Airlines is thinking and planning to operate the most lucrative, Singapore – Trichy – Dubai route in the near future, once upon completion of new Terminal building, as well as, new runway expansion by 12,500 ft, since, current runway of 8,000 ft is insufficient to operate with bigger aircraft, such as, Airbus 340/350 or Boeing 777.
Well, Trichy airport is slowly, but surely, gaining momentum of interest from several international carriers around the World.
September 5, 2007 at 12:29 PM
Hi Maran,
Good to note the news.
Very glad to note your collection of information.
Keep it up.

Silk Air as already put the Coimbatore schedule online.I doubt if there will be any change to it. I dont see Indian authorities allowing Silk Air to fly via Trichy, but I think this option is win win for Trichy,CBE and Silk Air. Lets hope for good. Also its good to hear Singapore Airlines is interested in Trichy, but I think thats a long way to go.

Has been following the updates of this website closely. Yes TRZ is really gaining popularity from singaporesn especially as the load factor for SIN-TRZ vv is close to 90%.
Have to comment the SIN-MAA vv has dropped significantly due to TRZ route.
Nonetheless TR will be operating SIN-MAA coming Oct 28 followed by SIN-COK on 30 Oct.
Another interesting news would be AIX has planned for KUL to TRZ vv similar to SIN next year…
AIX is rather aggressive in their pursuit to capture the indian market…
September 14, 2007 at 7:58 AM
AIE has to be aggressive and swift to control the Indian market share, before other low cost carriers, particularly, foreign operators start invading India market, in a big way, as the airport infrastructures are being improved all over India, particularly, Trichy airport is one of those for sure, is bound to attract many airline operators, as close as to the established Metro airports in India in due course.
Hence, anticipating the future demand for Trichy airport, AAI has already started or proposed to acquire more land of about 1000 acres.
Personally, believe with many infrastructure developments, as well as, proposed large scale Industrialisation, taking place in and around Trichy and its surrounding districts, it seems that Trichy is well on its way to be the second capital of Tamil Nadu in the near future. CHEERS TRICHY.
September 14, 2007 at 8:12 AM
Mihin Lanaka is starting CMB-SIN services from sep 24th. So, AIE should be more aggressive as Mihin is offering much lower fare. Singapore is becoming next door neighbour for Tiruchians.
September 14, 2007 at 8:42 AM
Certainly, Singapore has already become the next door neighbour, not only for Tiruchians, but for the whole of Tamil Nadu itself, since, I’ve been seeing many at Trichy airport, traveling to Singapore, for both leisure and shopping, apart from the businessmen/executives, as well as, labourers going there for work.

A.Kumar,
Thanks for the update on MJ operations. In fact MJ suppose to commence operations on this week (IIRC 10 Sept or 11 Sept) but they decided to call it off. Guess maybe they are not prepared for the operations yet.
Btw, MJ will be operating from Terminal 1 in Changi Airport although the initial plan was to operate from Terminal 2.
Lastly the Ground Handler will be CIAS for MJ;s operations in SIN…
Flight Schedule as shown below…
MJ601 CMB 0550 SIN 1250 MO WE FR 24SEP 07 27OCT 07
MJ602 SIN 1355 CMB 1555 MO WE FR 24SEP 07 27OCT 07
September 14, 2007 at 6:44 PM
The flight schedule is odd. The layover is 24 hours if you travel from Trichy
September 15, 2007 at 9:35 AM
It is very good news, that Air India Express is going to start the new service to Trichy to Abu Dhabi. Earlier i have to go Sharajh and catch the Indian Airlines, Now Air india Express is running the Trichy-Dubai Service Weekly Three times. But this one also not upto my expectation.
My expectation is Air India Express have to Start the Service from Trichy-Abu Dhabi, which is coming true in month October….Many of them are awaited this service which help us to reach Trichy much more quicker than ealier.
Really It was very good News.

Air Arabia’s Interest is Let Down
Air arabia, the low cost carrier from Sharjah, keen on starting Trichy services, but the Indian Government is not approving the services. And they have approved to start from Coimbatore and air arabia is starting operations from Coimbatore from October 2007. The following is the response from one of the air arabia officer. Please rock DGCA to approve the proposals towards Trichy.
“Air Arabia currently operates to Mumbai, Nagpur, Jaipur, Ahmadabad, Cochin, Trivandrum and Chennai. With effect from October 2007, we will be commencing services to Bangalore and Coimbatore. While we are keen to start services to Trichy, we haven’t been given permission from the Government of India yet. Hopefully, we will obtain the necessary approvals and commence services to Trichy in the months to come.”
September 16, 2007 at 7:14 AM
Mr A Kumar,
Where did you get this info about Mihin Lanka starting CMB _SIN flights in Sep 2007?
No mention about this in their website (mihinlanka.com)
You even posted the flight schedule as follows:
MJ601 CMB 0550 SIN 1250 MO WE FR 24SEP 07 27OCT 07
MJ602 SIN 1355 CMB 1555 MO WE FR 24SEP 07 27OCT 07
I am puzzled….
September 16, 2007 at 7:29 AM
ops
Air Arabia
is going to start service frm CMB a when they going to start frm TRZ
gov plz soon give the approval to start frm TRZ….
September 16, 2007 at 9:20 AM
Govt is trying to protect Indian airlines which operates to Sharjah from Trichy or even AIE which may fly to sharjah in future. This is really bad news that Air Arabia is not given permission. I dont know what is going to happen to other private airlines which have requested the permission to operate from Trichy.
Mihin lanka has put the CMB-SIN in its flight schedules. The flight starts from Sep 24th.
September 16, 2007 at 11:30 AM
ya gov is trying to protect
their AIRLINES
!!!! WE WILL WAIT AND see what is going to happenn
September 16, 2007 at 11:39 AM
Air Arabia will surely starts its services from Trichy instead, and not in Coimbatore for now. The Indian authorities has been holding on from approving, due to the non-completion of current infrastructure works at Trichy airport, particularly, apron works, though AIE has been allowed to operate on the certain portion of the expanded semi-finished apron works, and hence, giving AIE to increase its frequencies to the maximum possible at this point of time.
Nevertheless, Trichy airport officials are hoping and expecting to fully complete the apron works, and ready for use by year end, since, already quite a few air operators are pressurising now.
FYI, Air Arabia is more keen to start its services from Trichy airport than Coimbatore, due to the fact of high traffic voulume from here.
September 16, 2007 at 4:02 PM
The following Dinamalare article says, the apron(bay) work is completed and opened for operations. Also it says 8 flights can be parked at a time and the airport can handle passengers from 4 flights in a given time.
I think its govt monopoly and govt is going to enjoy it for atleast couple of years with traffic growing at greater rate. You can see this from govt approving AIE for additional services to singapore while rejecting Silk Air. Also AIE will be given permission to start new and additional services from this october.
I dont think govt will open Middle east or far east to private operators to start services from Trichy for atleast for couple of years.

Hi Sri,
Could you provide us with official links for the need to present the credit/copy of it upon check-in? No such information available in AIX Website though. Also when such requirement come into force too?
Guess such frauds are common just like what Kingfisher when through sometime last year.

Hey guys Look at this pages

October 1, 2007 at 3:24 PM
TRZ-KL service is not a direct flight.Passengers need to change air craft at Chennai.
October 1, 2007 at 4:25 PM
Yes, it is a connecting flight from Chennai.I assume AIE didnt get permission to start direct services to KL. So, I would think new flights to Abu Dhabi and additional flights to Dubai would be delayed too.
Current infrastructure at Trichy airport is 100% used and ongoing works have to expedited so new and additional services can start from Trichy airport.
October 1, 2007 at 8:46 PM
Has anyone successfully booked a ticket from SFO to TRZ round trip? At what price approximately?
October 1, 2007 at 9:02 PM
I thought it would be just easy to book a ticket from the SFO to TRZ. Unfortunately, many travel agents in the US cannot book on AIX.
A nice schedule on Singapore airlines from SFO would be:
SFO to TRZ: SQ15 and IX681 (or) SQ1 and IX681
TRZ to SFO: IX684 and SQ16 (or) IX682 and SQ2
Cathay schedule would be almost identical… Not sure about Malaysian but that flies only from LAX and not from SFO.
I think the problem is with AIX and not with the travel agents…
October 2, 2007 at 2:49 PM
Just to add MAA – KUL commences on 28 Oct 07. Flt IX 622 Departs MAA at 0230H and Arrives in KUL at 0845H.
As for TRZ to KUL route, this has not been reflected in their website. Any source for the info?

In the month of July’07 the total passangers travelled thro Trichy A
irport around 34000 surpasses Madurai The total aircraft movements was 520by Tiruchy against 620by Madurai
October 7, 2007 at 7:30 PM
Dear Trichi guys ,
We are nicely supporting TRICHY in addition to our Madurai’s growth if a Coimbatorean/anyone suppress us ? But-You people are jealous of the fast-growing MADURAI AIRPORT. I am disclosing some news here – please listen :
1. MADURAI Airport’s Infrastructure was very very bad – with a small terminal building , only 6000ft runway , parking bay for only 3 flights etc., So- It hadn’t seen any international flight or a good domestic flight so-far. But DEMANDS & PETITIONS daily reaching AAI to make it as International Airport.
2.Now the works in Madurai airport are :
Strenthening & Expansion of runway from 6000ft to 9000ft is going-on.7500ft completed.
New Integrated terminal Building in International status by the builders who built the CHENNAI Anna International Airport terminal.
4000 Acres of expansion – land surveyed.
Lands acquired in the eastern side of the airport for further runway expansion to 12500 ft.
A New-Runway was also planned awaiting for fund-clearance
Parking bay is under expansion from 3 to 6. Also a new parking bay is going to be constructed.
By the survey submitted to AAI by P.Waterhoopers & MADITSSIA – 50% of the International passengers using TRICHI, TRIVANDRUM , CHENNAI , COCHIN & COIMBATORE are from Madurai-bound areas. Also they had quoted that the passengers from here opt MADURAI only to go abroad if it gets International status.
Mr.Praful patel already announced that Madurai will be an International airport by 2009.
As you said – there are lot of pressures from both the politicians & the public so that only AAI is considering MADURAI.
We are exclaiming : with the low-class infrastructure how MADURAI is recording a 60-75% change in growth of passenger traffic in every year gap. If the developmental works get completed….no doubt….the survey by P.W.H will become true.
Already – Paramount & Rudradev aviation had seek permission from AAI to launch PILOT TRAINING ACADEMY here.
Also PARAMOUNT is going to launch a 40-60 billion dollars MRO Facility in madurai capable of maintaining 40 flights.
HELI-TOURISM by PAWANHAANS is on fast-track. we can soon expect the helicopters in madurai-skies.
HELI-TOURISM is also planned by PARAMOUNT from Madurai.
Already SRILANKAN AIRLINES , DECCAN LANKA , MALAYSIAN AIRLINES , SINGAPORE AIRLINES & the airlines of Gulf-countries are urging AAI to upgrade the Madurai into International status —- It was said by MP of Dindigul – Mr.SIDDHAN & MP of Madurai – Mr.MOHAN and also proved by Mr.Praful Patel when he came madurai.
You please note all the southern districts are demanding MADURAI to be as International airport.
Tirunelveli , Kanyakumari , Tutucorin , Virudunagar , Theni , Dindigul , Sivaganga , Ramnad etc.,
MADURAI is a tourism-hub
now-emerging as a major IT-Hub – please read daily magazines.
Already a health-care hub.
To be a Manufacturing hub ina short-span.
Knowledge corridor.
Also you note : MADURAI always rejected from the govt., side INDIAN still it has the same 1 as when the airport was inagurated.
But now : PARAMOUNT – Daily 4 to chennai
JET AIRWAYS – Daily 3 to chennai
AIR DECCAN – Daily 2 to chennai
INDIAN – 1 to MUMBAI
PARAMOUNT – 1 to BANGALORE
AIR DECCAN – 1 to Bangalore.
Also as 5th & 6th : KINGFISHER is coming to Madurai very soon in MADURAI-CHENNAI Sector.
AIR-DRAVIDA in MADURAI-CHENNAI & MADURAI-BANGALORE SECTOR .
AAI had planned to remove the rule of TWO International Airports within 150 kms not only for the need of Greenfield airports in METROS but also to announce Madurai as International Airport.Already Mr.Praful Patil had announced that madurai will be International airport by 2009. So—-No thanks !
So…..Don’t dream always & Don’t be jealous of growing neighbour city. We were happy when TRICHI announced as International airport & I myself had posted news on marvellous growth-rate of Passenger traffic in both domestic & International , Frieht traffic , aircraft movements etc., in TRICHI airport & we are boosting & proud ! But you people are jealous ! SHED !
October 8, 2007 at 3:58 AM
Dear Maduraigilli,
I am surprised by ur reply. Tiruchy is also an smaller airport it had struggled to get the expanded runway as no politician from Tiruchy supported the airport’s growth whereas Madurai is well supported by its politicians. From the present M.p Mr.Mohan to then M.p A.G.S.Rambabu.
One important thing is Madurai’s population is so high comparing to Tiruchy’s population. No domestic airways is considering Trichy as its network. But in the Madurai’s case it is different. Paramount is the Madurai based airline and it is operating three times a day to Madurai.
Historically Tiruchy has interlinked with Srilanka and srilankan airlines is the only airline that are operating flights consistently to Tiruchy.
I also worked in Madurai for 5 years and I loved the City very much like my homecity Tiruchy.
We are just comparing the aircraft movements Madurai Handled 620 against Tiruchy 520 it is achived only in the month of July’07
Moreover Tiruchy is the heart of Tamilnadu and well connected by Road to all the parts.
50% of the international passangers are from Central Region Only. People fromNagaercoil, Tirunelveli are using Trivandrum International Airport.
By strategic loation all people from the southern region to get the international status to Tiruchy airport. I wonder how Mr.Praful Patel is said that Madurai is going to be a International Airport in 2009 as Madurai having no international connections. No foreign airline is interested to operate Flights from Madurai. Then how international flights are being operated from Madurai.
I hope AIE will consider Madurai for operating International Flights in the near future.

Guys are immateting our City .. how can i simply see tat
ok r u from Trichy??????
October 8, 2007 at 5:53 PM
As I said earlier this is a Trichy blog and there will be negative comments against other cities which doesnt mean we are against those cities. I have read negative comments against development of Trichy and more specifically about Trichy airport in Madurai and Coimbatore blogs. This common and no need to sweat for it.
October 9, 2007 at 1:58 AM
Let us stop this fighting between the cities. It is better for us that all the three Airports Truchy, CBE and MDU should be developed. The TN Govt and other officials should use their influence toget these airports modernised. We all shall expect a heavy flow of Industries in India, especially in TN in near future. Many of our guys will fly from these cities to International and national cities. We should develop our Airport infrastructure either by Private Participation or by Govt whchever is feasible. We don’t have time to fight each other and wasting our energy. Educated personal are also responsible for the development of this country. We shall write to the paper or pull these defectors to the public, and make them responsible. My humble request, you guys, don’t fight, be constructive, love each other and be loved.
October 9, 2007 at 3:29 AM
Dear Mr. Adhil,
I proud to say that I am Trichian. Born & bought up in Trichy…
Studied in Secret Heart higher Secondary School in Ponmalaipatti, Then DME in SIT, Engineering in Shanmugha College of Engineering- tanjore & MBA in Bharathiar University. I worked in Trichy, Chennai, all over Gulf including KSA, Qatar, Baharain… and now settled somewhere in India..
I like to see the development in Trichy.. and let we all concentrate only on these goal.. Since all our sites become diluted.. some of the genuine people not keep on interested to participate..
Anyway.. all the best..
You know onething, whereever you go outside trichy in elsewhere India.. It is very diffcult to reach Trichy by air… SO Our city to improve a lot to connect demostic also (Inclusive Growth)…
All the Best..
October 11, 2007 at 8:13 AM
Hi everyone,
Its natural tendency to see that their city is improving and wish that thiers is better than their neighbours .
As long as Trichy airport is doing well we should be happy and look for its progress and dont compare .
Let us not get too exicted or frustrated with some comments which is aimed to fame / de-fame their city .
Let us work only for the progress of our city and at a higher level development of our country.
As some of you had mentioned , trichy being the centre of TN with good road/rail connectivity , airlines will find trichy – nearer destinations not very profitable . Airlines should target long distance flights from Delhi/Mumbai to Trichy via Bangalore and Chennai . This will help travellers both from long and short destinations to reach trichy at a cheaper cost (tax reduces) and airlines can run full capacity.
Trichy being spread nicely unlike many population concentrated cities is good to us in many ways. Lesser traffic /parking , more scope for parks and more peaceful.
Let us keep our city clean and tidy . It should start from each of us . lets us try to encourage Exnora and the like and help our govt. officials to make the city better.
May be a bit of too much advice above
but others will follow us if we can achieve

New Delhi, Oct 14 Visakhapatnam and Tiruchi are to soon get world class modern airports. Airports Authority of India (AAI) plans to invite bids by the end of the month for not only commercial operation and maintenance of the terminal building but also develop, manage and operate the cargo facilities and undertake city side development at Visakhapatnam and Tiruchi airports.
Confirming the development, official sources told Business Line that the development of the two southern airports would be broadly on the lines being followed for the development of Amritsar and Udaipur airports.
Earlier this month, AAI called for Request for Quotation for outsourcing on a long-term basis the maintenance and commercial exploitation of the new terminal buildings at the two northern airports. The bidders have been asked to submit their proposals by the middle of next month.
A similar process is likely to be followed for the Visakhapatnam and Tiruchi airportsThe latest data available with AAI shows that in January this year Tiruchi saw a jump of 26 per cent at 20,533 passengers as compared to 16,267 passengers handled during the same period in the previous year.
Similarly, Visakhapatnam saw a rise of 13 per cent in passengers handled at 18,382 during March this year as compared to 16,207 handled during the same period in the previous year. In July Tiruchi recorded an 85.8 per cent increase in passengers handled at 33,125 (17,831).

October 27, 2007 at 2:57 PM
I guess Air India Express is planing to connect Kuwait in future and could be the reason for withdrawl of service by Indian.

i am working in dubai. we happy to know more services will be operated from trichy (oman, emirates, mas). malaysian airlines can operated their service like kuala lumpur-trichy-dubai.
air india express also should have a route to kl. air india express has to change trichy-dubai time to night.
regards
October 29, 2007 at 10:20 AM
Is there any possibilities to change the Air India route chennai-Dammam-Chennai to Dammam – Trichi – Chennai.
It will more profit and helpful for Trichi and around five District peoples.
October 29, 2007 at 11:24 AM
From our region many are working in Maldives. Why airlines are not operating direct flight to Male’?
October 29, 2007 at 4:03 PM
Hi,
One of the most worrying thing I’ve seen
at Indian(Trichy) Airport is – Immigration officers not wearing Uniforms…
The foreign countries have decent uniform for immigration officers…
Do our Immigration officers have really uniforms?
If so…
Do they just neglecting to wear it?
Please comment on this…
Thank you
November 5, 2007 at 1:55 PM
Hi,
good to hear about Trichy airport expansion, as a frequent flyer of Trichy I would like to suggest to improve services in the airport permisses.
1. clean and higenic Toilets
2. Restaurent and Internet cafe
3. prepaid Taxi/Auto counters in Arival area
3. Avoid toomuch croud and delay on imigration counters(suggest to organise oneline and divert one by one passengers to available immigration officer, this will help the passengers to waiting longtime on one counter after to rush other counter)
4. To control compalsary collection from the pick up drop off passengers by parking lot contraotr( all the time they acting as gundas)
5. keep away the illegal money changers(they chacing the passengers with budle of currency notes)
If we improve the above mentioned will be attract all visitors & tourists.
Every one will travel to Trichy without Panic
Thanks
November 14, 2007 at 11:04 AM
According the latest information given by AIE – Customer Suppor that, they have no plan to start flight services from Kuwait to Trichy/Chennai Sector.
November 22, 2007 at 2:25 PM
Hi
Kingfisher airlines will be back to serve trichy shortly TRZ-BLR.propably on jan 2008.
November 22, 2007 at 8:16 PM
That would be great, from where did you get the above news ?.
November 23, 2007 at 4:43 AM
This is good news, hope they come back with better schedule.
November 23, 2007 at 6:15 AM
The timing should be some time in morning or in evening and not in afternoon.
November 23, 2007 at 2:22 PM
With no credible source to prove the above news, i think this could also be a rumour. Please dont get angry on me for being a critic in this case too. As far as Kingfisher’s new strategy is they are looking at providing better connectivity between metros and big cities, for acheiving this they have started to utilise the time slots of Air Deccan at these airports. On the other hand they are providing their time slots at smaller airports to Deccan. They want to avoid a situation were they both compete with each other in metro routes.
So i feel KF will not serve Trichy, and the only possibility is Deccan to expand service to Bangalore.
November 27, 2007 at 11:13 PM
I feel the presence of national carrier on Chennai-Trichy route has discouraged private airlines to start service from Trichy. Our national carrier provides cheap fare which is an advantage but at the same time operates flights at inconvenient timings. The dead cheap fare offered by Indian and AIE has made operation of flights by private airlines commercially unviable.
This is a big loss to Trichians as private airlines normally provide service at convenient timings and and nominal cost.
Trichy is facing the same situation faced by Calicut, that is monopoly by Indian. This could hurt us in the long run as CBE and MDU are fast expanding due to interest by private airlines.
November 28, 2007 at 7:46 AM
Yes…….Trichy guy!!!!!! Trichy is all rounder loser compared to Madurai and Coimbatore. HAPPY??????????????????
November 28, 2007 at 8:29 AM
Don’t worry about it now. Situation will not be the same as on today. Once the Trichy Airport expansion and apron facilities are on, you will see the flow of other national airlines, throwing out the monopoly of the Indian Air Lines. Afterall it is a business for convenience and demand.
November 28, 2007 at 8:50 AM
To some extend I agree Trichy is becoming monopoly to National carriers and lets hope it doesnt become like another Calicut. This is true from the fact that Air Arabia was not given permission while AIE was given permission to fly 6 additional flights to singapore.
As for the fare, I think Deccan was the one which was offering tickets for Rs 0, 7, 10, 99 and hence the National carriers had to follow Deccan and reduce the fare. But Now I think fare seems to be consistent( Rs 500) between Deccan and National carriers.
November 28, 2007 at 10:11 AM
Jeeva first learn to accept critical comments. Whats the use of always staying in a dream world, shouldn’t we discuss ground realities here ?.
Sudaresan, how long will you be saying wait for apron expansion and airport expansion. Already trichy has bigger arpon and better airport infrastructure than Madurai, but still no private airlines other than Air Deccan operates from Trichy, whereas the situation in Madurai is extremely different.
November 28, 2007 at 10:22 AM
Hello! I am looking at this site for the past one year. I could see many predictions on positive development of Tiruchi airport is getting its momentum. Let us see what will happen after 6 months. But I can assure that definetly the situation would be improved and Tiruchi airport would be one of the important airports in Tamil Nadu and South India.
November 28, 2007 at 2:12 PM
Jeeva is an nutwit who can’t tolerate genuine criticism…..there are plenty of pricks in here who would like to believe that “All is well” forever! Trichyguy – just move on and assume that these pricks don’t exist!
It is a fact that Trichy can’t compete with other cities at this point of time. Its predominantly middle class with very little population who have disposable income to afford domestic air travel.
In hindsight, we should be discussing about india remaining a third world country where the hyped “economic growth” doesn’t translate in to increase in personal wealth. Its the presence of government rather than the absence and their fcuked up system that ought to be lashed!
Let’s accept the reality mates!
November 29, 2007 at 5:59 AM
Hello,
Will there be any chance of direct flight from Trichy to Kuala Lumpur in near future?
Definetely it will help many south tamilnadu peoples going to chennai to board.
November 29, 2007 at 8:38 AM
AIE was planing Mumbai-Trichy-Kuala Lumpur and it makes sense as Trichy would get connection to Mumbai.Trichy would get more connections to Chennai when AIE starts flying to Abu Dhabi and also increase the Dubai service.
November 30, 2007 at 1:31 AM
More than the above connection to Mumbai, Trichy-Bangalore-Mumbai from Indian would be better. But with the recent cancellation of Kingfisher’s ATR flight to Bangalore not sure if there would be enough patronage for Trichy-Bangalore-Mumbai with A320 or bigger flights. What do you guys think ?. Or they should extend Trichy-Chennai flights to Mumbai.
November 30, 2007 at 6:34 AM
Personally, I’ve flown a few times by kingfisher from Trichy-Banglore(transit)-Mumbai in the recent past, with an average patronage of 10-15 personnels.
Ever since, Kingfisher cancellations, many has been put to hardship, and hence, has put up several request with the respective authorities, with which, was told that the kingfisher will re-start its operations sometime early next year. Well, just hope so.
November 30, 2007 at 9:00 AM
Hi,
Is there any news about Trichy-Dubai daily connections. The average patronage is more than 80%.
November 30, 2007 at 9:22 AM
Thats very bad, average patronage of just 10-15 passengers on Trichy-Bangalore sector. With such low patronage how will they restart flights early next year ?.
November 30, 2007 at 10:00 AM
Please note, average patronage of 10-15 passengers is from Trichy-Mumbai via Bangalore, and not Trichy-Bangalore, which has an average patronage of 35-40.Hence, don’t jump to conclusion.
December 3, 2007 at 3:09 PM
I am mukesh, i love the city very much.I am an trichian. I hope trichy will became a very big city in world.
December 4, 2007 at 5:21 AM
Mukesh,
There will be many others who go to Mumbai through Chennai flight or by train etc so i would say its not bad

December 5, 2007 at 8:29 PM
We should not compare Trichy and Madurai as a whole, because Madurai doesnt have international flights yet. If we compare domestic wise we are far behind, with just 8,000 odd passengers and 120 aircraft movements whereas Madurai has nearly 30,000 passengers and 582 aircraft movements in the month of September.
With the cancellation of Kingfisher flights from November the situation is getting even worse for Trichy
.
December 5, 2007 at 11:01 PM
Interms of International sector we are doing well upto Sept. We have to wait and see the effect of 4 new international flights from Coimbatore which commensed in the month of Oct. The international passengers statistics data for Nov would be very crucial in this regard.
December 6, 2007 at 4:22 AM
Trichy Guy,
Domestic routes to CHENNAI / BANGALORE are unattractive as they are close to Trichy than Madurai . So even domestic connections to these places are not fair comparisons
December 6, 2007 at 5:17 AM
Dear all,
Iam comparing the no of passangers used the airport.thats all not international or domestic .If tiruchy is well connected by air carriers in the convenient timings then we compare Tiruchy with Madurai for domestic sector.
December 6, 2007 at 5:25 AM
If Tiruchy is connected Bangalore,Chennai and Mumbai in the convenient timings we can expect more patronage in the domestic sector
December 6, 2007 at 7:27 AM
I agree fully with Mr.Narayanan. Tiruchi Airport is getting more familiar and busy now a days. It is also true that majority of the international passengers are coming from Madurai region. Anyhow, Tiruchi will go up in the number of passengers once more international flights and connectivity to Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore even when Madurai starts its international flights.
December 6, 2007 at 8:43 AM
To get convenient connections private airlines have to show interest in Trichy airport. As long as Indian and AIE are dominating at Trichy airport, i dont think any private airlines will be interested in our city. We have to be happy with inconvenient timings and very cheap fares.
December 6, 2007 at 10:41 AM
May we request paramount airways/jet airways to operate on the Chennai-Tiruchy-Madurai-Mumbai sector as per their existing schedules. Paramount is serving 3times a day service to Madurai and we request to extend the earlymorning service via Tiruchy on alternate days because Indian is operating 2earlymorning flights to chennai. May we unite to write this suggestion to Paramount Airways
December 6, 2007 at 2:58 PM
mr.damodaran its not true that majority of intl passengers are coming from madurai region alone.becoz passengers from tirunelveli and other southern regions are using tiruvananthapuram airport…. majority of passengers using trichy airport are from central region(tanjore, perambalur, pudukottai, karur etc.,)therefore 80% are from central region only remaining 20% are from madurai region
December 6, 2007 at 3:26 PM
Narayanan, actually Paramount is operating 4 flights per day on Chennai-Madurai sector. Since they have only 70 seater Embraer aircrafts they will not be interested in operating Chennai to Madurai via Trichy. Also this could discourage Madurai passengers from taking such a flight due to wastage of time at Trichy airport.
December 9, 2007 at 1:02 PM
Hi guys, take note, paramount airways is a staunch madurai based airlines, and hence, its management ambition is to fully develop madurai as an aviation hub of the south, dumping Trichy, in particular, in the process, as well as, other proposed nearby airports.
Unless, politicians, as well as, various airlines, were to evince interest for Trichy, perhaps, we may witness Trichy airport success for many many years to come.
To side track, as a regular user of Trichy airport, flying 3-4 times a month from here, I’ve been observing Trichy airport current infrastructure developments are much much improved over the years, since, if I could recollect the early days of my first international flight arrival(1988) at Trichy airport, as being a small roof top house terminal, with Sri Lankan airlines (Air Lanka), as the only foreign international flight operator then.
Nevertheless, wish and hope, to see Trichy airport being developed in to a World Class International Airport fully through its pace, despite, against all odds.
December 9, 2007 at 1:45 PM
I fully agree with Mr.Maran on his view about Tiruchi Airport development. In the next three years, no doubt that Tiruchi will become one of the important airports in India, especially Southern India.
As I already mentioned somewhere in this site, IVVAANAM UNGAL VASAM as written in Mihin Lanka Airlines flight.
December 9, 2007 at 6:12 PM
The below article says there is not direct flight to Mumbai or Delhi from Trichy though there are good number of people travelling to these cities.Surprisingly, people are travelling to Coimbatore to take flight to Mumbai or Delhi. So,I guess a flight to Mumbai or Delhi through Chennai/Bangalore should receive good response.
http://www.dailythanthi.com/thanthiepaper/9122007/FE_27PA-1.jpg
December 9, 2007 at 11:07 PM
Who would waste 4.5 hrs to travel 200+ kms to Coimbatore and then take a flight to Mumbai ?. As of now passengers would prefer to reach Chennai by flight and then take a flight to Mumbai from there.
With flight to Bangalore getting cancelled bcos of poor patronage, how can we expect a flight to Mumbai via Bangalore ?. Flight to Mumbai via Chennai could be the possibility. Indian should come forward to extend Chennai flight to Mumbai.
Recently Chennai based Star Aviation got license from Aviation ministry to operate as a regional airline. The bad news is they dont have any plans for Trichy. The news is as follows,
Star Aviation will use ATR 42 and ATR 72 and begin operations with four such planes.
These planes will fly between south Indian cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Madurai, Trivandrum, Kochi, Vizag, Hyderabad and Bangalore.

December 10, 2007 at 4:14 AM
Who wants short distance flights from trichy ?
Trichy should be connected to Mumbai and Delhi via Bangalore and Chennai / Hyderabad.
Trichy was connected to Bangalore by Kingfisher which cost you approx. 2500 + 1200 psf which is almost the same fare from Chennai / Bangalore to Mumbai or even Delhi if you book early.
Even if i have money , i would like to take ii ac by train which would cost me almost 1/5th of the total cost. This is not considering the odd timings the flight which was not good at all.
December 10, 2007 at 11:47 AM
Unless we have cost based mentalitity only Indian and to an extent Deccan can serve us with their bad and inconvenient services. Kingfisher, Paramount, Jet airways who operate in CBE and MDU offer good service at a premium.
December 10, 2007 at 3:53 PM
PEOPLE WHO WANT TO TRAVEL TO LONG DISTANCE DESTINATIONS WILL LIKE TO GO FOR JET OR KINGFISHER EVEN IF IT COSTS MORE . NO ONE WOULD LIKE TO PAY TWO TAXES TO REACH A PLACE LIKE DELHI WHETHER ITS PREMIUM OR BUDGET AIRLINES
December 12, 2007 at 4:36 AM
Paramount to start operations to Trichy from January.Hope we get a convenient schedule from Paramount.

December 12, 2007 at 6:05 AM
Yes. It is a great news. Hope the newyear will be a great year for Trichy Airport. Already srilankan airlines add a another flight and total services increases from 10times to 13times per week. Also we expect more services from AIE to Abudhabi,Doha and Kuwait
December 12, 2007 at 6:33 AM
Is it srilankan increases from 10 to 13??
I think srilankan increased from 10 to 11
December 12, 2007 at 8:18 AM
Srilankan increased its flights from 10 to 11.
December 12, 2007 at 10:06 AM
We need to wait and see how Paramount airways planned to operate flight services to Tiruchi. We require flight services from Tiruchi to Bangalaore and Tiruichi – Chennai. I hope that Paramount would start thinking of introducing flight services in both the above sectors. For both sector, if early morning flight services introduced that would be excellent. Any it is a happy news for all Tiruchians that Paramount would start flight services from Tiruchi from January onwards.
December 12, 2007 at 12:50 PM
Hi guys
Its not that as you people think that TRZ-BLR of kingfisher is cancelled due to poor response it was mainly due to nonavailability of aircraft for this winter shedule which requires more flights between metros and so they were supposed to cancel this sector and due to new aircrafts induction in this mean time they were planning to start this sector again in this summer and kingfisher will concentrate more on trichy as there intention is to get an international status as soon as possible.
December 12, 2007 at 1:45 PM
mohan, why would they requires an ATR 72 flight to operate between metros that too during holiday season ?. If aircraft availability was the reason then why are they adding flights to new destinations and increasing frequency on many other destinations ?. Please have a look at their website.
December 13, 2007 at 12:58 PM
Hi trichy guy
ATR is used for to and fro operation between BLR and MAA The timing which earlier kingfisher operating between BLR to TRZ is now given to BLR to MAA sector if you have doubt have a look on that website there is an additional flight between BLR and MAA in the same timing when operted for trichy as they find BLR MAA sector always full they had used the same aircraft for additional fleet between two metros.
December 13, 2007 at 1:15 PM
well set Mr.Mohan
December 16, 2007 at 1:16 AM
Paramount to start operations to Trichy from January.
http://www.hindu.com/2007/12/12/stories/2007121255230600.htm
I just checked the cheapest fares of Deccan and Indian on Chennai-Trichy sector, its 5,050 and 5,380 Rs. respectively. Apart from this we have AIE, which also has cheap fares, dont know how successful Paramount would be. The cheapest Chennai-Madurai fare on Paramount is 6,850 and 7,750.
December 16, 2007 at 1:52 AM
The above fares are for 2 ways.
December 17, 2007 at 10:27 AM
i have so eagely waiting for singapore to trichy service by tiger airways.
trichy people we aill enjoy soon.
December 17, 2007 at 10:54 AM
Are there news about Tiger Airways starting flight operations from Tiruchi – Singapore?
December 17, 2007 at 12:17 PM
SINGAPORE, 4 June 2007. Tiger Airways, Singapore’s low fare airline, has been granted a Foreign Carrier Air Permit from the Government of India, Civil Aviation Department (DGCA). This means the airline has cleared the final regulatory hurdle and is now ready to operate international flights between Singapore and a wide network of destinations across India.
Tiger Airways has been granted the rights to fly between Singapore and Chennai, Cochin, Goa, Trivandrum, Kolkata and Kozhikode. The airline is now in the midst of planning its flight routes and is in talks with airports and suppliers at these destinations. Tiger Airways will be announcing its initial route network to India once discussions have concluded, which the airline expects to take place fairly soon. The airline is confident that the growing demand for international low fare air travel by a fast expanding Indian economy will ensure the success of these routes.
Tony Davis, CEO of Tiger Airways said “Having firmly established Tiger Airways as the largest international low fare airline to serve China, these new route authorities between Singapore and India represent another significant opportunity to grow our business in Asia. The company’s duel strategy of a major expansion in Asia, as well as establishing the first truly low fare airline in Australia, will create new opportunities to link travel between key Australian cities such as Melbourne, Darwin and Perth with points across Asia”.
Tiger Airways will be the only Singapore based low fare airline to operate flights between Singapore and India. Tiger Airways earlier this year obtained authority to operate extended twin engine operations (ETOPS), which enables the airline to operate more efficient direct routings between Singapore and points in southern India.
It expects keen demand for its reliable and affordable travel to stimulate demand for more travel between the two countries. Singapore and India have strong historic ties with Indians forming one of the major racial groups in Singapore’s multiracial population. The boost of affordable air travel will also add significant socio-economic benefits to the two countries through the expansion of tourism and commercial growth.
For more information about Tiger Airways, visit http://www.tigerairways.com
December 17, 2007 at 12:19 PM
I THINK THERE IS LITTLE CHANCES ONLY TO INTRODUCE FLIGHT SERVICES TO TRICHY.ALREADY AIE IS OPERATING 9TIMES A WEEK TO SINGAPAORE AND PLANS TWICE DAILY FLIGHTS TO SINGAPORE EARLY NEXT YEAR FROM TRICHY
December 17, 2007 at 1:41 PM
According the following report, Tiger Airways is planing to start services in 2008.
http://www.allbusiness.com/operations/shipping-air-freight/4493546-1.html
My only concern is wether govt will allow private airlines to operate from Trichy?
December 18, 2007 at 12:00 PM
Yesterday I visited the AIE website for booking a ticket to chennai. I surprised that the quota is full starting from 26th Dec’07 28th Jan’08 is almost full.
I want to know how many seats alloted for the domestic travel
December 27, 2007 at 6:51 PM
Thank you all for the feedback about Trichy Airport and the developments happening around it. But to the demise, we do not see any pictures neither in the website nor in this blog. I would appreciate if anybody takes responsibility to post the beautiful pictures of ongoing project / completed area of work. We have wonderful projection on the HYDERABAD & BANGALORE airport. We would love to have one set of pictures (including the model) for our own Trichy Airport too. Can someone do it. I would love to do it. But I am not residing in India as of now. I am reaching out to you friends, requesting to be the first to post the pictures. (This may not be the prime motive of the blog writers)
January 7, 2008 at 6:01 AM
Hi Guys, AIE has confirmed plans for flight connectivity, by early Feb’2008, from Trichy-Chennai-Johore Bahru(Malaysia), thrice weekly, similar to current schedule of Trichy-Chennai-Kuala Lumpur. Will publish soon.
Besides, not sure though, as to whether AIE plans to increase their flight schedules from Trichy to various other Gulf countries, apart from current operation to Dubai. Perhaps, may announced in due course of time.
HAPPY FLYING CLOSER TO HOMES.
January 7, 2008 at 1:33 PM
Are they planing to extend the current MAA-KL flight to Johore Bahru? Also AIE should start direct services to KL and Johore Bahru similar to Singapore rather than changing flights at chennai.
January 7, 2008 at 1:57 PM
Maran, please post the source to your news, many of your speculations like resumption of kingfisher’s flight in Jan has not happened.
In public forums and blogs its highly appreciable to post with source.

Now Trichy is truly international with connections to

Air Arabia, UAE-based international low cost carrier, is keen to add mini metros to its route map in India by 2008-end. The airline has already applied to the Government of India for its requisite approval to operate from Amritsar, Hyderabad, Kozhizode, Trichy and Luchnow.
“We see sizeable business potential in these mini metros, considering that there isn’t much competition in terms of airlines providing connectivity to the Gulf. By mid-2008, we hope to get the government approval, so that by the year-end we will be able to cover all the proposed mini metros,” said Adel Ali, CEO, Air Arabia. According to Ali, the airline is confident of achieving 70-75 per cent Passenger Load Factor (PLF) in the initial months of the proposed services.
At present, Air Arabia connects Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Thiruvanathapuram, Coimbatore and Bangalore to the Gulf and beyond. In terms of fleet, it currently operates 11 leased A320 aircraft, and plans to increase the figure to over 50 aircraft by 2015.

Dear all,
Thanks for the information about TRZ aiport.
Mr. A. Kumar special Thanks for your update releted to Airarabia’s Sharjah- Trichyt sector.
I am working in Gulf, if the above route is clear we can have service from all over gulf to TRZ as Airarabia having good network all over Gulf exept Saudi Arabia.
January 14, 2008 at 2:16 PM
Airarabia has been willing to add Trichy in its destinations since long back(Even before Coimbatore). But the DGCA was not approving the same.
We hope DGCA approves now as there are plenty of Parking bays available now.
Lets hope….
January 14, 2008 at 2:56 PM
Right, now 10 aircrafts can be parked at a time and also during the night.Hope DGCA gives approval by this summer.
January 15, 2008 at 3:13 PM
Chennai-Trichy flights full during this pongal.
Here is the article
Flights to various destinations from Chennai are also full. An airline official says even executive class tickets are not available for Tiruchi, Madurai and Cochin-bound flights for the next one week.

This is now become a very urgent requirement to connect delhi, mumbai and cochin from trichy. The concerned office to work for it.
January 20, 2008 at 10:21 AM
What is the urgent requirement to connect Delhi and Cochin when we dont have connection to Bangalore and Mumbai, inadequate and inconvienient connection to Chennai ?.
January 21, 2008 at 4:21 AM
It is more logical to connect distant places like Mumbai and Delhi as it would save a lot on time
January 21, 2008 at 10:11 AM
I dont think there would be enough patronage for a direct flight to Delhi or Mumbai. They have to route it via Chennai or Bangalore to make it feasible.
January 21, 2008 at 11:01 AM
Absolutely Right. That way people as well airlines benefit
January 21, 2008 at 11:54 AM
I heard that AIE is going to start flights to Abudhabi via Mumbai from April onwards.
January 21, 2008 at 5:53 PM
We hear all these rumours, but nothing really happens. There was rumours about AIE starting mumbai-trichy-KL service, but what we have is a connecting flight from Chennai to KL.Anyway lets hope AIE starts new services in summer schedule.
January 24, 2008 at 4:12 AM
Hi,
Why cant there be air service from hyderabad to Trichy..
the road and rail journey is hectic…
whereas the breakup journey is costly
January 24, 2008 at 4:13 AM
yes, I do agree with BSB…..
Atleast once/ twice in a week would be gr8
January 24, 2008 at 2:54 PM
Trichy needs connection to Bangalore,Mumbai and Delhi where people travel often. I dont know if there are enough people travelling to Hyderabad from Trichy.
February 13, 2008 at 5:11 AM
Deccan to link Bangalore – Trichy twice a week
http://www.business-standard.com/common/news_article.php?leftnm=1&autono=313500
February 13, 2008 at 5:33 AM
Its twice daily and not week.
February 13, 2008 at 7:22 AM
Great it would be if we have connections to Delhi and Mumbai through hyderabad/Chennai even thrice a week from Trichy.
February 16, 2008 at 6:11 AM
Hi all,
I am working in Kuwait. Indian had stopped the service from Trichy. No we have only one option that Srilankan airways.
What is the latest on new terminal and extended runway in TRZ airport? is there any airline planning to operate flight from Kuwait to TRZ in near future?????????
We are hearing Air Arabia and Air India express going to start service, any improvment on this??????????????????
February 18, 2008 at 2:24 AM
Recently I visited Trichy by Air India Express from Singapore and back. The onward journey to Trichy is fine and within the time, whereas the return flight on 17th Feb via Chennai is really tiresome and boring. We have to stay in the Air Craft at Chennai and the waitng time is extended to Four Hrs, due to the Improper, unplanned, sluggish, slow security clearance at Chennai Airport. Passengers were deported into batches of five to six which has consumed time. It landed In Singapore two hours behind the schedule! The aircraft is fine and new. Trichy Airport is fine and improvement is in fast space. We shall expect that the New Airport is ready by June08.
February 18, 2008 at 11:08 AM
http://aai.aero/traffic_news/dec2k7_trafficnews.jsp
Around 33000passangers used the Trichy Airport in the month of Dec’07 against 403aircraft movements comparing to 24323 passangers in the month of Nov’07. It clearly indicates that increase in international flights at Coimbatore airport does not affect Trichy’s growth. Moreover Mihin started its operations in the month of Jan’07 and the international passangers nos will increase in Jan’07
February 18, 2008 at 2:43 PM
Narayanan of the 33,000 passengers 6,500 are domestic passengers, so only 26,500 international passengers have used the airport this Dec. In Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov Trichy handled around 29,000, 26,500, 27,000, 24,000 passengers. Dec is the peak season and only 26,500 passengers, which is less that Aug and Oct traffic. I think there is some effect bcos of Coimbatore airport.
February 18, 2008 at 4:14 PM
How do you expect more passengers when no new destinations was added?
Infact Indian cancelled its Kuwait flights from Nov while Mihin operated flights for the entire months of Jul,Aug,Sept,10-15 days in Oct,Dec and cancelled its service in Nov.
Depending on Mihin Lanka’s operations, there are 28000-32000 seats available on the international sector and the average load factor is around 90%.
We wont be seeing rise in the international passengers until new destinations are added which I think will happen after the new terminal is opened.
February 19, 2008 at 1:33 PM
See the statistics
(considering international only)
Month No.of aircrafts passangers
Aug 380 28876
sep 357 26346
Oct 376 26828
Nov 316 24323
Dec 343 26562
Mihin lanka partitally suspends its flights in the month of Dec’07. In January’08 it is operating 5times a week. So we expect atleast 30000passangers alone in the international sector.
February 19, 2008 at 2:22 PM
Even in Jan’08 Mihin had operated skeletal services. It resumed the services from Jan 18th and so we cant see much increase in passengers for January. This will be true for Feb’08 as the services was suspended in Feb 13th and will resume from March 1st only.
Bottomline is Trichy airport is doing well and passenger traffic is consistent both during peak and non-peak season. As I said earlier, until we have new services the passenger traffic is going to remain same wether its peak or non-peak season.
February 21, 2008 at 1:43 AM
As the Air India Express is gaining populatiry in all sectors especially Singapore – Trichy Sector, the authority should pay attention to change the infight refreshments. The Cold “Puliansadam and the out dated cakes” should be avoided. The committee can plan and try other dishes which is delicious and attracitive. Backery items, snacks, fresh bread, fruit cakes, puri & subji shall be tried. “Fed up with this old style of Pulianchadam & cakes in which the taste is already expired.
February 21, 2008 at 6:09 AM
Air India Express is becoming popular, but their service is going to remain same though.Lets hope govt gives permission to private airlines to start operations from Trichy.
Air Arabia is flying to Calicut from Feb 26 and not sure why Air Arabia is not getting clearence to fly to Trichy??
February 21, 2008 at 6:44 AM
Dear Mr. Kumar,
This is surprise news Air ARbia got clearance to fly Calicut. we are eagerly waiting for more service to TRZ. Frestration keeps continuing!!!!!!!
February 21, 2008 at 2:48 PM
Yes its really frustrating because DGCA is not giving clearence inspite of various Airlines showing interest to start services from Trichy.
The Trichy airport is more spacious now with expansion of Apron completed and 10 flights can be parked at a given time.
I dont understand the real reason for DGCA not giving approval??
February 22, 2008 at 6:44 AM
Is Mihin Lanka currently operating from Trichy?
February 22, 2008 at 8:08 AM
No, the service was cancelled from Feb 13th and will resume from March 1st.Mihin is having financial and technical problems with their aricraft.
February 27, 2008 at 4:47 AM
Will there be a plan about commencing flight operations by Air Deccan from Chennai – Tiruchy -Chennai apart from the morning flight daily 10.20 a.m. and 11.35 am from Chennai and Tiruchi repectively.
Anyone, recently visited the Tiruchy new terminal building construction status?
February 27, 2008 at 5:11 AM
Deccan is introducing an evening flight from March 30th on Chennai-Trichy-Chennai.It departs chennai at 5:55 PM and Trichy at 7:40 PM.
February 27, 2008 at 6:16 AM
Singapore Airlines is planing to start services to Trichy.Lets hope they soon start the services.

Hi,
any one can find a way to get Tiruchy from Middle east countyes without going columbu?
If they got any root like that please give the detailed information on this site.
And another thing is in Trichy airport Immigration officials, that always they asking questions, i.e thats is what is your name and what is your addres? the adress is already writin in the depature fourm. if they ask like this information really what they trying to find out, I don’t know realy if anybody knows the reason please let u display on this site.
Thanks,
March 2, 2008 at 10:23 AM
Well, because they are illiterates who can’t read and jealous that you can fly while they can’t!!!
Another quick question – why is it that some of them wear formal dresses and then match it up with sandals on their feet..lol??
March 2, 2008 at 6:26 PM
The right answer is they don’t respect their profession & their customers. But they all expecting repect from the public.
March 3, 2008 at 5:58 AM
Mr. Kumar I don’t think there is much option to reach TRZ without pass by Colombo at this time. However there are some Indian Flights connecting TRZ via Kerala( either Calicut or Trivandrum). The above service available only from UAE.
Srilankan Airlines utilising this and increasing the fare as there is no competetor.
Srilankan’s fare for Trichy is about 20% more than fare to Chennai, Hydrabad, Bangalore, Calicut which are more distance than Trichy from Colombo.
As of now we have no option and we have to wait till more service TRZ. I hope mid of this year something shall be happened.
March 3, 2008 at 6:53 AM
Anthony – you might be overlooking certain factors here – i might have explained this before elsewhere in the same blog – but here is a repeat: The cost of a ticket factors in landing fee, tax on ATF, state tax on seats, cargo handling, Aiport services cost(includes checking-in, tagging) and various other components which vary in different states and cities in India. While UL might be using its own staff to handle airport services in chennai or Hyderabad without incurring additional cost it might have to use the services of AAI staff in trichy or Coimbatore by paying a small premium.
All the above mentioned services could have variable costs depending on seasons(peak, lean and off), landing time(morning versus midnight) and even ATF rates. Remember, Airlines usually pass on any “associated” costs to the passengers which is why ticket fares vary between destinations – no hidden agenda there!!
March 3, 2008 at 2:55 PM
Here is a news that says AIE’s fare on the Singapore-Chennai is less than the Singapore-Trichy sector though the flight to chennai is via Trichy. Most of the passengers buy tickets to chennai as the cost is less and get down at Trichy. This seems to be increasing every day.
I think its ridiculous to charge more to Trichy. The ATF is going to remain same across the state, the landing fee is less than chennai and AIE has its own ground handling staff. So it doesnt make any sense to charge more to Trichy.
Personally, I think Srilankan and AIE is taking advantage of the fact that there are less number of direct flights to Gulf and South east.

March 4, 2008 at 5:23 AM
Is this an typical example of the state government mentality in curbing the general growth of Tier II cities in Tamil Nadu state??????????????????????????? while neighbouring state like Kerala are going on a all round developments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it enemy within???????????????????????????
March 4, 2008 at 7:10 AM
Hi,
Any news about AIE service from Trichy to Abu Dhabi, B’cas we are expecting this service for a long time.
Srilankan Airlines is the currently operating Abu Dhabi – Colombo – Trichy.
March 5, 2008 at 6:02 AM
Airindia express is simply cheating by showing the flight status as full and increasing the fare in tha last minute also today when checked for dubai trichy flight the fare was 550USD and the fare for dubai chennai which is via trichy is only 324USD.As they are aware that there is no other airline to operate to trichy they are simply increasing the fare instead of increasing the frequency of these flights. This can come to an end by allowing more operators to fly from trichy to gulf and other countries.
March 5, 2008 at 7:12 AM
AIE starting fare to Dubai and Singapore from Trichy is more than from Chennai. As I have mentioned earlier AIE is taking advantage.
My concern is wether govt will allow private airlines to operate from Trichy and hope did doesnt become another Calicut which until recently was monopoly to AIE and Indian.
Why wont govt give clearence to private airlines when Trichy aiport can handle 4-5 flights at a time and the apron can hold 10 flights???
March 5, 2008 at 1:47 PM
Ashok,
See the link. Fare TRZ Colombu and Chennai Colombu are exactly same in Srilankan’s online booking system.
If this is the case how come 20% different between TRZ- Gulf destination and Chennai-Gulf destination. I think all you said are used as alibies by the airlines.
March 5, 2008 at 1:48 PM
http://bookings.srilankan.aero/farequote.asp
Sorry for not attach the link.
March 6, 2008 at 4:05 AM
Well Anthony – It appears that you and the others wont quit until Srilankan discloses the cost structure?! Try to speak to one of the Aircraft engineers onboard(usually in Airbus 340-400/600) if you have a chance-he might explain to you in layman terms.
IATA prevents cartalisation in anycase by effective monitoring and wouldn’t allow unfair hikes… so dont panic as yet!
March 6, 2008 at 7:14 AM
Let us wait for more service to TRZ, then we will see the how Srilankan react specially if Airarabia starts its service to TRZ.
Apart from all of this we should get more service to Trichy.
Thanks,
March 6, 2008 at 7:39 AM
Trich Airport is being developed by AAI and managed by them. It is not free from their principle to allow the pvt carriers from Trichy than the National Carrier AIE. AIE is doing monopoly in the sector Sinagpore-trichy-Dubai. their fares are definitely fluctuating and more on the higher side. Week ends / Holidays, the charges are 20% more than the normal fare. As such, these “Budget Carriers”, I find only 200s$ variable form the Normal carrier. So passengers are deprived of better service, inflight delight in the name of “Budget Carriers”
March 6, 2008 at 2:30 PM
Absolutely,it wont be a cake walk for pvt airlines to get govt approval.
Based on the following report Air Arabia is waiting for approval from government.
http://www.travelbizmonitor.com/ArticleDetails.aspx?aid=2374&sid=36&sname=Top%20Stories
The UAE based international LCC had earlier applied to the Government of India for approval for starting operations from Amritsar, Hyderabad, Trichy and Lucknow along with Kozhikode. The airline has managed to get permission only for Kozhikode so far

As for the existing terminal, they will be modify and integrate it with the new terminal.I guess the new terminal will be used for international flights and existing one will be use for domestic. You can see the tenders for modification of existing terminal in the AAI website.

March 12, 2008 at 9:15 AM
Hey Guys
Why it is happening to trichy, If some body starts new services, somebody will stop the existing one, Why it is happening like this, we have to grow like coimbatore ,More than 1.1 Lac passengers per month, with 28 Aircrafts Landing in Coiumbatore per day, Even this madurai, crossed more than 1000 Passengers per day.We are all speaking a lot, but ground reality is no improvement.
March 13, 2008 at 1:32 AM
Who said Trichy is lacking.? As per the message from the Minister of Civil Aviation ,that the present new terminal which is under construction in Trichy, will be expanded further and will complete before march 2010, along with other airport, Madurai in TN. The present new construction of the Terminal is expected to complete in June 08, with Two Passenger Load Bridge, apron area expansion and parking area for ten wide air craft at a time. It will be a passenger friendly Airport with facilities. Singapore Airlines, Air Asia etc are in the list to fly to Trichy.
March 13, 2008 at 4:56 AM

Airarabia going to start their service to Delhi by end of this month. I keep monitoring for service to TRZ, so far no news.

March 13, 2008 at 5:35 AM
Mr. Kumar,
Apart from Airarabia is there any airline got apporoval from the government to operate flights from Gulf countries specially Kuwait where large number of Tamilan working???????
March 13, 2008 at 8:37 AM
R.Sundaresan, Minister for civil aviation had only said that upgradation and development of all 35 non metro airports will be completed by 2010. He didnt say anything that once again Trichy airport terminal will be expanded or not, which is highly unlikely. I dont think they would even think of expanding before 2015.
AAI cheated Trichy people by planning the new terminal very small. The new terminal at Trichy will just be 11,800 sq.m, whereas the AAI plans to expand CBE terminal from 6,000 to 14,000 sq.m and is constructing a 17,536 sq.m new terminal at Madurai.
March 13, 2008 at 10:01 AM
Is construction works started at Madurai. In AAI website I have not seen Tenders for new terminal building.
I hope Trichy will prove its own strength after the new terminal put in to operation. Don’t worry about small terminal. Based on the patronage AAI again go for bigger plan.
Let’s wait
March 13, 2008 at 10:10 AM
Herewith, the news from CII Trichy sometime back.
Tamilnadu government is working on an ambitious airport expansion project for Trichy. An investment of Rs.75 crores has been made for new Terminal to handle 150 passengers at peak hours. This work has already been started and slated to be completed by the end of the year 2007. We at CII-Trichy, were able to bring focus to the need for a much larger airport, keeping in mind the future requirement of Trichy. The Louis Berger Group from the US (the consultants for Airport Authority of India) have already been brought to Trichy and the proposal for about Rs.550 crores will be presented to the Minister of Civil Aviation for the next phase of expansion which needs to be completed by the year 2010.
Currently Trichy airport receives about 30 aircrafts a week, which will go up to about 69 aircrafts a week by the end of the year. Trichy airport, by the year 2008, must handle atleast 150 aircrafts a week, both national and international.
We are also promoting Trichy as an alternative industry destination. An IT Park is to be located on a 50 acre campus with the Tamil Nadu Government chipping in with a Tidel Park (similar to Chennai). Many software giants like CTS, Wipro, and Infosys are increasingly showing interest in Trichy.
The energy equipment manufacturing sector in Trichy is doing extremely well, what with BHEL and its ancillary units. In fact, many ancillary units have graduated to become large scale units with turnover poised to reach Rs.200 crores each. The energy equipment manufacturing sector will deliver Rs.7000 crores worth equipments this year and is poised to touch Rs.15000 crores by the year 2010.
I am sure that in future, Trichy will be able to regain its past glory as the industry town of Tamilnadu
March 13, 2008 at 10:47 AM
R.S.NARAYANAN, the construction of new terminal at Madurai airport had started in Dec 2007.
March 13, 2008 at 10:48 AM
Let us wait for some more time. Only the future will in what way Tiruchi is leading ahead. Thanks for all your contributions.
March 13, 2008 at 10:56 AM
trichy Guy, will it be finished b4 2010?…
If so, Advance wishes for madurai frds including urselfs…
trichy Airport modernisation proposed in Kumaramangalam period, ies in last decade…and started development process last 5 years back from 2004.. and finally we are able to get reasonably good facility…
What you are going to do with very large area in 2015… We need facility rightnow to take of momentum…
by the way, hats of too all the people whoever worked hard to get this facility including Kumaramangalam, Raja, K.N.Nehru, CII-T & offcourse the great trichians…
March 13, 2008 at 11:25 AM
Dude, i just replied to the question which Narayanan had asked.
Let me answer your question now. AAI started construction at Madurai in Dec 2007 and the contract period is 15 months, so its slated to be ready by March 2009. This is what i saw in the newspapers. Lets see if the contractors finish on time, which God only knows.
March 13, 2008 at 11:43 AM
The airline, which is a market leader in South India, plans to connect airports in North-East and Western India soon, he said.
Paramount Airways is augmenting its fleet size and two more aircraft will be added to the existing fleet next month. The new aircraft will enable the airline connect more cities such as Trichy and Calicut besides operating more flights from Bangalore to Pune and Goa.
Paramount got the award in Geneva on 10th March as best airlines in par with Singapore airlines.
March 13, 2008 at 1:19 PM
If construction is started in Dec’07 no details in the Tenders of AAI website. why? anybody clarify
March 13, 2008 at 4:20 PM
Dude this is not a project in the range of few lakhs, such that tender is announced and the next month project starts. This is an 88 crore Rs. project, the tender must have been called 6 to 9 months before.
March 14, 2008 at 6:06 AM
In to-day newspaper Daily Thanthi, Paramount Airways announced that in May Tiruchi – Chennai flight services would be introduced. Similarly, from Chennai – Madurai flight operations will begin as per the news source.
March 14, 2008 at 6:19 AM
AAI hasnt cheated anybody. The terminal building was designed based on 20-25% growth. After Realzing the current growth has been more and considering future potential ,AAI had come out with further expansion plan for which govt is giving 1000 acres free. The survey to identify the land is underway and almost 600 acres(most of them behind the airport) of govt land has been identified.
The total area of the existing terminal(3000 sqm) and New terminal(11800 sqm) is around 15000 sqm which I think is not bad.
I wouldnt worry about the expansion for now, like many Tiruchians I want to see the New Terminal completed and also happy Trichy is getting a decent airport.

Hi A.Kumar, thanks and appreciate for your source on current status of land acquisition of 1000 acres, as per Trichy airport proposed expansion programme.

whether paramount s planing small air crafts are airbus like 320……
can any one tell me?????
March 16, 2008 at 10:18 AM
As per the news they are adding two empr jet similar to what they have now.I think seating capacity may be around 70 only.
March 16, 2008 at 1:39 PM
Expansion of both Madhurai& Tiruchy Airports
are really better for people who live between these two cities
The distance between Madhurai & Tiruchy is just 142 Kms.
These days the since the roads are getting better and better…we Tiruchians(International flyers specially) can even take Madhurai as another option, in case if we have no flights on a preferred timings to Tiruchy.
March 16, 2008 at 2:14 PM
Trichy-Madurai distance is 128 kms to be exact.
March 16, 2008 at 3:01 PM
Madurai airport can never&will never overtake Trichy airport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 16, 2008 at 4:57 PM
Sam,
Tiruchians can take but think of people from central-northern or eastern state. it will be difficult for them. East tamilnadu has lof of potential. It would be difficult for them to go to chennai and that too sriperumpudhur airport comes, it would be even tough for them. As trichy is centrally located, it will be approachable by everybody. Thats why trichy airport get its importance.
Jeeva,
Lets just discuss one and only about trichy here please. Please refrain from passing direct comment on other cities, please.
March 16, 2008 at 5:03 PM
Mr. Jeeva please shun this attitude.
Any city which develop would mostly
favour the whole Tamil Nadu.
Being a Tiruchian, I love Tiruchy even
becoming a Political Captial of TN.
And Tiruchy has great geographic advantange
when compare to other cities of TN.
But I do love the way Cbe and Mdu is growing…
Among those 2 cities…we can make use
of Mdu to our city favour…
Tiruchy city has also got a potential to
expand its boundary upto Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Karur , Ariyalur
The above said cities are too growing their own way and trying to catch up with our city boundary.
Imagine a city of that much expansion…can even compete with any international cities in the world, provided we have good infrastructure…say in 10 to 15 years time.
Dream big…we are there!
March 16, 2008 at 5:11 PM
Dear Nemo,
You did make a point…
Using MDU’s Airport as an alternative would
only viable for people from Tiruchy city,
Pudukkottai and area which lies between
MDU & TRY..
Honestly…Tiruchy deserve to get more
investment atleast on aviation industry…
as International Flights has been touching Tiruchy for many, many years…
Let us hope the best!
March 16, 2008 at 11:34 PM
(Jeeva #348) lets not forget that just 9 months back our airport was far behind than Madurai airport interms of traffic. Even now Madurai and Trichy airport traffics are neck and neck, this is even without Madurai having international flights. If Madurai gets international connections, then wonder how they cant overtake us.
March 17, 2008 at 3:01 AM
The geographical location of Trichy also may be a negative point. The big cities near Trichy where lot of air traveling taking place is Chennai ,Bangalore and Cochin. But these cities are very well connected to Trichy by train and buses. So people may not prefer air considering the fare and almost same traveling time (residence to residence). That may be the reason airlines are hesitating to introduce more flights.Even now with less number of trips people flying between Chennai and Trichy is not much.
March 17, 2008 at 5:00 AM
Who said less people are flying?? The domestic load factor is around 50-60%.Which I thing is a good one.I agree, to some extend strategic location has impact on air travel with people have option of taking either train or buses. But the other reason why people (business and other officials) are shying away is timings. Most of the chennai flights are operated by Indian and AIE.Since these areinternational fligts, most of the time they are delayed and come at odd times. Most of the business either travel to chennai or bangalore by road and take onward flights to delhi/mumbai.Even people are travelling to coimbatore to take flights to delhi/mumbai.
with introduction of 2 bangalore flights and an additional evening flight by Deccan and proposed flight services by Paramount, the air connectivit is definitely set to improve from this summer.
March 17, 2008 at 5:01 AM
Hey u Trichy guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Suspect u r Madurai guy alias Madurai Veeran!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 17, 2008 at 5:32 AM
There a quite few bloggers in this blog posing themselves as Tiruchians and prmoting their cities.Anyway, this is a blog and we cant help it.Let just ignnore them.
March 17, 2008 at 5:33 AM
subbu,
That may be only for trichians. Think about neighbouring districts of trichy. Even if some one is from salem , they can use trichy airport and to flying to middle east, i know many passengers from salem (who are from my friends circle) are using trichy airport. Same applies to people from nagapatinam, virudhachalam etc.
Considering all the roads around trichy are improved, definitely for sure there will be more traffic in trichy airport.
March 17, 2008 at 5:55 AM
Nemo .You are right.Intl flights will help Trichy people also. But my views are only about flights to Chennai, Blr, Cochin,Kovai, etc.
March 17, 2008 at 6:04 AM
May be you guys are not aware that the international traffic at Trichy is around 80-90%.Unless Trichy gets more international fligts,we wont see surge in the Traffic.
Many airlines are waiting for clearence from DGCA.But due to lack of enough Security Personal at Trichy airport, DGCA has not given the clearence yet. AIE flight to Abu Dhabi, additional fligts to Dubai and direct fligts to KL are awaiting for DGCA clearence. Also Air Arabia, Oman airways is too waiting for clearence.
March 17, 2008 at 9:34 AM
Jeeva, i really dont understand what you are saying. Whenever i make a critical comment you just hijack me out of Trichy. Im a trichian, currently abroad. I grew up in Tiruverambur and studied in BHEL school.
If you cant answer my questions, please dont respond. Someone else can answer me this question,
lets not forget that just 9 months back our airport was far behind than Madurai airport interms of traffic. Even now Madurai and Trichy airport traffics are neck and neck, this is even without Madurai having international flights. If Madurai gets international connections, then wonder how they cant overtake us.
March 17, 2008 at 10:23 AM
@Trichy guy
Definietly MDU has a potential to over take us…
But one thing I strongly believe is the Gulf
flyers mostly from Thanjavur and adjacent areas…
Their most preferable port is Tiruchy…
Hence Tiruchy won’t loose its charm.
Another factor about Tiruchy is…our city
is not driven by any particular community.
MDU & CBE have community dominance who pressurise the politicians to gain the factor towards them.
We Tiruchians should be proud to say we are
not a community driven city!
March 17, 2008 at 11:18 AM
Community dominance ? I dont understand. Any development brought about by any reason has to be appreciated. We need some politicians who raise voice for Trichy.
Everytime i hear that Dindigul MP Sithan and Madurai MP Mohan raising their voice in the parliament for southern districts. No news so far about our beloved MPs, wonder if they go and sleep in the Parliament or do they actually go ?.
March 17, 2008 at 11:57 AM
@ Tircuhy guy
I dont want to mention the community
names here….
Coimbatore is strongly driven by the community
or to say one particular caste…
Same as MDU too have that advantage…
They play a key role
But the urge to develop our city is not driven by any such big force…
Only I guess people like you and me is
trying to speak about it…
I think, its better we can send an email or fax from the members here to our beloved MPs..
and try to get their reply on the issues we are talking about.
March 17, 2008 at 12:24 PM
@sam,
Will they reply if you send fax or email. i wonder. But better to try it out always
March 23, 2008 at 4:44 AM
Tamilnadu state government should take over all Tamil Nadu airports. These are all lying idle because the Hindi organization which controls the Tamil Nadu airports at present are diverting funds to Hindi airports like Delhi, Bombay etc and reserving posts exclusively for Hindi staff.
As long as the Hindi organization Airport India Authority controls Tamil nadu airports, airports like Salem, Vellore, Tuticorin will never develop.
TN should immediately take over it airports and have Tamil annoucments. Now Tamil has been succesfully removed from Chennai aiport.
Karnataka will build 20 new airports under state control. For how long can Tamil Nadu state live with only 4 airports.
Also Tamil Nadu should start Tamilnadu airways which will annouce in Tamil just like Air Kerala or Gujarat Airways.
March 23, 2008 at 4:48 AM
It is distressing to see Paramount Airways, a business class airline which is supposed to be headquartered inside Tamilnadu wants to hire staff who DONT speak Tamil – only English and Hindi for posts inside Tamilnadu.
So Hindi is business class and Tamil is become ‘poor man’ class?
March 24, 2008 at 2:06 AM
Hi, Trichy interested people. Don’t develop yourself as another ‘Raj Thakery of Maharashtra”. Tamil Speaking people should show their solidarity among other state people and should not be aloof. Identity will be automatically come in, if you believe in you. Why Tamilian are afraid of Hindi and other indian languages, while they are interested to learn the English language?.The young Tamilian shall learn Hindi and shall rule India, rather than lamenting, greeding the improvement of other states people. How many Tamilian are interested in “acquring the Aircraft and become another Malliah”.We have our own fault, preminition and how we can blame other state people. Kerala, Andhra & Karnataka people have learnt Hindi and wayforward in every field. Stop these nonsense and try to improve yourself and don’t be dragged by the idea of “Tamil Politician” and try to be with the Indian Society”. Do you know these politician who are all said to de dying for Tamil, have sent their offsprings to study Hindi, Sanskrit and other Indian language? As an young Indian Tamil, don’t be carried away by these silly points, try to be smart be learning all other Indian Languages. A man can learn as many as languages, if they have interest. Pt Jawarharlal Nehru knows Seventeen languages, Naramasinha rao, Fifteen and Ms Subbalakshmi sang in all Indian Languages and also in English, French and spanish.
March 24, 2008 at 3:29 AM
Mr.Sundaresan is right.During our school days we were carried away by the anti hindi slogans of politicians and refused to learn hindi. Now since I have to travel a lot to all over India I face the problem of communication. All our politicians who came to power opposing hindi and posing as supporting tamil ensured their children,gd children learn hindi so that they can easily manage at Delhi. The younger generations, pl don’t do the same mistake what we did.You like it or not Hindi is the national language and used in many states.May be TN and W Bengal are only opposing hindi. If paramount recruits only tamil knowing people and run the business only in TN they have to close down soon. When we want air connectivity to other states the staff should know other languages also.I have met many tamilians working in all airlines who speaks hindi very well and never hesitate to answer in Tamil.Once I know they are from TN I always speak to them in Tamil and they also answer in Tamil. Now lot of boys/girls from TN are working in all over india and abroad.Any agitation against other languages here will reflect on them. Many times I was surprised to see kannada people from Bangalore OR kerala people from Trivandrum/Palakkadu speak tamil to me when they know I am from TN and don’t understand hindi. My request all youngsters is pl follow the advice of Mr.Sundaresan and grow in your life.
March 24, 2008 at 4:24 AM
Yes, I completely agree to Subbu and Sundaresan comments.
I faced lot of problem as I was not speak Hindi earlier days. Then I forced to learn Hindi, otherwise it is really difficulty to survive in gulf countries. Then I decided my children should learn Hindi in order to avoid communication problem in future. Now they are study Hindi at India International Scholl in Kuwait.
I do not want write much about this subject and redirect this blog’s objective.
March 25, 2008 at 11:57 AM
Around 35000 people used Trichy airport in the month of Jan’08. Madurai handled 31712 passangers. 28000passangers in the international sector and around 7000 in the domestic sector.
aai.aero/traffic_news/jan2k8_trafficnews.jsp
March 25, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Coimbatore seems to be doing impressively in the international sector, already nearly 10,000 passengers.
March 25, 2008 at 12:52 PM
For Trichy to get industrialised and to attract IT companies the domestic connectivity has to be improved. Its really sad to see that only 6,500 domestic passengers used the Trichy airport during Jan 2008. Whereas the figures for Madurai and Coimbatore are 32,000 and 89,000 respectively during the same period.
March 25, 2008 at 2:01 PM
Its not about winning or loosing. We need to address both the negatives and positives of Trichy. People here always talk about positive things and never even open their mouth about the negatives.
It was in this same blog that people said international flights from CBE will be a flop. And we see now that CBE has handled 10,000 international passengers in Jan 2008. If you see 1 year back Trichy was also handling passengers in that range, even though we had international operations for a long time.
March 25, 2008 at 3:47 PM
Trichy guy
From March 30th onwards we’ll have 3 more aircraft for trichy and Chennai..So in domestic side, sure will be more than 10000 in coming months…
Also Paramount will be operating from atleast May onwards.. So in mid of this year, trichy will handle considable amount in domestic side also…
R u thinking that trichy will fail if it connects with Abudabi, Kuwait and malasia?? …
It’ll become reality after completion of expansion activities, then will witness increase in international side also..
trichy has facility more than that of demand.. Only limited airport has this facility… So if AAI start process of giving notification to all airlines which are all waiting for reply..
March 25, 2008 at 3:52 PM
trichy guy..
check Madurai and CBE in domestic side… There is no improvement over last year…instead CBE has negative growth over last year.. mean sasurated???.. can u give me explanation….
Definately in coming months Trichy domestic traffic will be doubled.. thats sure…
March 25, 2008 at 4:34 PM
Niranjan, may i know what are the 3 new services from Trichy from March 30th on the domestic front.
Just visit the Air Deccan website, they have just introduced 1 service to Bangalore from March 30th. This i would consider as a replacement for a service cancelled by Kingfisher last year. Their earlier plan of 2nd flight to Bangalore and Chennai has been dropped i guess.
March 25, 2008 at 4:38 PM
Niranjan, Trichy has only 4% increase in domestic passengers. Do you mean the domestic sector is saturated ?.
March 25, 2008 at 9:33 PM
rightnow only trichy is in expansion mood .. and there are room for further expansion and not like other airport…
March 26, 2008 at 5:03 AM
Hi everybody,
6594 passangers against 62 aircraft movements.
28869passangers against 334aircraft movements. Really it is a healthy figure. Our requirement is additional services to domestic sectors in convenient timings. Hope we will reach more than 12000passangers in the coming months for domestic sector. IF mihin lanka consistently operates its services there will be increase in international traffice alone to 32000 to 34000 passangers
March 27, 2008 at 5:00 AM
The Tiruchi Airport Authority celebrated the one year succeessful operation of Air India Express yesterday. All the passengers were given warm welcome with rose (bouquet) by the AIE officials. It is also expected soon flight operations will be commissioned from Tiruchi to Abudhabi. Good. More and more encouraging news are coming from Tiruchi Airport.
March 27, 2008 at 8:12 AM
It is really good to see the traffic growth at Trichy Airport when compare to Jan-2007 & Jan-2008. After the completion of new terminal building, really we have more service from various Airline and traffic will be more.
When the Trichy – Abu Dhabi new service is going to start?

To-day in the Daily Thanthi, news appeared about the close of Tiruchi – Pudukottai highway upto 10 km. distance for further expansion of Tiruchi airport and runway expansion. Because of the pressure and other reasons, the runway of the Tiruchi Airport has to be reduced from 12500 to 10500 feet. Will it affect big aircraft landing because of the reduced runway to 10500 feet. Anyone can clarify.
March 28, 2008 at 7:20 AM
Oh no………… it is a vey very BAD news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Soon Madurai&Kovai airports will take over Trichy airport to be their HUB of operations in the south. Blame the stupid Trichy officials!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 28, 2008 at 8:59 AM
Here is the link to the Daily thanthi report.
http://www.dailythanthi.com/thanthiepaper/2832008/FE_24PA-4.jpg
The report is really confusing.Though AAI had plan to reduce the runway to 10500 ft, now AAI says it wants the Trichy-Pudukootai highway to be closed and hand over the land to it.Also AAI want the lands opposite to the airport.May be AAI is going back to 12500 ft runway.
We will have to wait and see.
March 28, 2008 at 9:17 AM
I read through the article, just wondering about the quality of our tamil dailies.
Closing of a NH for expanding is not an easy task. NHAI has to first approve it, then they need to acquire land for the new alignment and construct road there, for both of which AAI has to pay. Only when the new highway is ready will they close the current pudhukottai road.
I hope they better take another solution, as this could take ages. I have a doubt if this could ever happen.
March 28, 2008 at 9:56 AM

I think this is the right time to de-route Trichy-Pudukottai via KK Nagar-K.Sathanoor-Avoor-Mathur.With NHAI planing to 4 lane the NH 210 at Rs 1300 crs, it will be easy for them to acquire/take over land on the K.Sathanoor-Mathur as most of them are waste lands on this stretch. The other advantage is they can expand the existing road that runs from K.Sathanoor to Avaoor.
If they were to expand the existing pudukottai high, then there will be acquisition issues all the way from TVS tollgate to Mathur as there are many dwellings, industires on the highway apart from the airport, central jail,
barathidasan university.
