The day is nearby where two wheel riders in TN has to wear Helmets while traveling. Signaling that the protest against that also is increasing day by day. I did not know any protest in Trichy but i am reading about some popping up here and there in TN. The common theme in protest is “Helmets pose health hazard.” No details about what hazard but just , you know, hazard.
Instead of protesting against the policy which makes it compulsory to wear helmets, why not protest against the poor quality of the helmets which may be the cause for health hazard. May be we can wear helmets without any health concerns then.
Just a thought !!!
With IT parks and SEZ zones popping up all over the country which is driving the speculative land pricing like crazy, only the powerful and the rich are getting benefits. Seldom the people living in those lands and who own them for longtime get much benefits. We hear stories of forcible land acquisitions from the local tenants only to turn around and sell them to the government and private parties for higher price is all too common.
Now the government is waking up and trying to do something about this. A law is in works which will make the industries acquiring the land to rehabilitate the people from that land.
The following Quote is from the Rural Development Ministry source
We have a two-pronged strategy. Besides enacting a new R&R Act, the Land Acquisition Act too would be amended to give the new law an overriding effect over the Land Acquisition Act and the Special Economic Zone Act,” said a Rural Development Ministry source.
The act is called relief and rehabilitation policy and it will soon see the light of the day in the cabinet.
I don’t understand the lethargy. It it not common sense that human greed mostly takes over the good nature when large and quick money is involved. Don’t we have to have this law before approving all this IT parks and SEZ zones ? Now most of the country know the the SEZ and IT parks lands are way to do quick buck and the greedy elements will certainly find loopholes in this law.
This still supports the theory and notion is we are growing too fast for our own good. But Growth is required at this pace to keep up with the world but people with good foresight also is required to keep up with the growth pace.
Bharathidasan University after getting Anna University brand for its technical wing is moving ahead in diversifying itself in other major disciplines as well. It has now plans to start off-campus B. Tech. programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Biotechnology, and Electronics and Communication Engineering in Bishop Heber College and Jamal Mohamed College in Tiruchi city and at Nehru Memorial College at rural Puthanampatti from the coming academic year. The respective colleges provide faculty and resources but the degree will be in Anna University’s name. The AU / BU takes 25% of the revenue and the rest goes to the respective colleges.
On the outset, this is a perfect franchisee model where the education and name is being out for 25% of the revenue. The major strength of an academic program lies in the strength of the faculty and their resources. Nothing against the three colleges but with varied faculty and resources in three different colleges in three different locations, it is just impossible to provide the same quality of education that should come with the stamp of an university degree.
Now getting Anna University degree is like getting a IGNOU degree in any discipline.
Oh! How the mighty has fallen !
Hopefully AU will come out with more details on this program and how it intends to provide the best faculty and resources to students.
St. Joseph’s is a premiere institution in Trichy. Now it is getting a unique programme in its academic portfolio. Bharathidasan Univ has initiated a plan to introduce a Five year degree programme leading to BSc. The admissions are open to 10th passed students . This programme will directly lead to Ph.D programme in any major disciplines and the students can tailor their courses accordingly to suit their goals.
Excerpt from the article from The Hindu.
The Vice-Chancellor, C. Thangamuthu, said that the university would pay the special science scholarship to students with funds mobilised from the Department of Science and Technology, industries, besides its own. The programme, envisaging a paradigm shift in teaching-learning methodologies, would encompass a research-focused understanding of all the branches of science such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and Environmental Science. The uniform system in vogue was examination-oriented and did not suit promotion of research-oriented study of sciences
We all know Trichy railway Station is a loner in the midst of the busy Junction / cantonment area. Lots of public will board the train in Trichy Fort and Srirangam just because they are in the areas close to the population than Trichy Junction. Sometimes it makes me wonder whether that is why the station is always in a sombre mood. But now the slow ‘n sombre Trichy station is getting a new extensions to the shelter in the platform 1 and 1 A. They are a big reprive for the passengers who wait in the scorching sun to board the train. The trains got longer and longer to accomodate more passengers and hence 50% of the trains will be outside of the station when parked. But now atleast most of them will be inside the shelter which will allow the elderly and children board the trains from the platform and not from the ground. ( from where the steps to thecoach will be very uncomfortable).
The IT park venture in the city is coming up smoothly and swiftly. Although the size of the IT park (125 Acres) is going to be smaller than the one proposed in Madurai (200+acres) and Salem ( 160 acres) . No big player have evinced interest in the IT park yet but will follow once some companies setup shops and get quality employees. The sticking point in the setting up seems to be the cost of setup in the park.
The improvement of infrastructure should happen hand in hand to this to reap the full benefit.
Thamilagathin NerKazanjeeyum, Thanjai and Trichy are quietly playing the Free Markets efficiently. The Rice mills in the region are in modernisation efforts to increase their outputs from the average of 30 tons / day. Traditionally they were targeting the public distribution system. Now they have broadened their reach into Foreign and Out of State markets which is forcing them to upgarde in order to compete not only in price but also in quality.
Removal of Paddy Movement restrictions, raising of stockholding limits and large role of private trade after government’s stoppage of monopoly buying has fueled this growth. Now the rice mill owners confidently say that their non Basmati rice is cheaper from other state suppliers yet being high quality.
It is good that the Rice mills are upgrading and making money in open market but how it helped the local market is yet to be seen.
Are they neglecting the local trichy markets for highly priced other markets ? I am not sure..
We are all excited about the Trichy Airport Expansion. There is another equally important upgrade that is happening in Trichy. That is the central busstand expansion.
Trichy, with its multitude of neighbouring small towns, depends on reliable bus service to get the people in and out from those small towns. With trichy’s growing population of buses, there were many complaints that the bus services not only occupies the road while on the move, but also occupies a lot of road space while parked. We all know about the total mismanagement while constructing the yesteryear’s Tiruvalluvar bus stand where after completion, it was found out that the buses cannot enter the bays because of miscalculated widths. Hopefully, it does not happen here in this expansion plan.
Trichy busstand is being expanded to contain 76 bays for buses ( from existing 43 bays) at a budget of approx 2 crores and expected to be completed in 6 months.
So that means, that there can be 76 buses in bays and 75 buses out of bays in bus stand ( going by the current conditions) . :>
