I AM MORE HAPPY DIRECT FLIGHT DUBAI TO TRICHY THANKYOU FOR AIRINDIA EXPRESS
March 2, 2007 at 6:25 AM
Hi All,
From to-day onwards (2.3.07), the extended runway in Tiruchi Airport commissioned and the Flight from Sharjah to be landed in the newly established runway. As a result of the extended runway, more flight operators are eyeing on Tiruchi Airport so that Tiruchi will become a hub of international airlines acitvities. On 28th March, I travelled by Kingfisher airlines from Tiruchi to Bangalore. There is a good response from the Tiruchians. The inflight service and hospitality from Kingfisher airlines was really impressive. I wish Tiruchi Airport to be more active and productive for Tiruchians.

Excellent.Trichy will get a facelift. The congestion at Chenna Airport will ease and so the travel from Trichy to Chennai to catch Singapore /Dubai flights also will reduce.
I hope more connecting facilities to New York,London,Paris and Frankfurt if made available from Dubai will be arranged by Emirates and other airlines operating from Middle East.

Hi All,
Air India Express to-day announced the news about Tiruchi – Dubai and Tiruchi – Singapore flight services scheduled to be start from March 26th onwards. The news was announced and published in THE HINDU (11,3,2007) newspaper to-day. Once again as one of the Tiruchian, I express my gratitude to the Air Port Authorities for starting this new sector which will be a boon to Tiruchian.
March 12, 2007 at 7:04 AM
As a Tiruchian its a great news about Trichy-Singapore flight service. It would be greatful if anyone could provide me the schedule for the same. I am first time visitor to this site and found informative and good information about my native city.

March 13, 2007 at 1:49 PM
Hi Adhil,
You are right about feeling happy over the New Service & Upgrading the Trichy Airport but the Authorities do not deserve the praise you are showering on them.
This work was due since 10 years I would say and they have been doing their best to delay the progress. The extension of runway was delayed by more than 1 year for no reason. If the Airport was upgraded 5 years back, how many poor labourers would have saved their hard earned money. They do not plan for the future… they plan for the past requirements. What they are doing now should have been done 10 years back.
No need to praise them ADHIL, they are doing their job and that also at SNAIL’S PACE.
March 14, 2007 at 8:49 AM
I agree with Deen…It’s more out of compulsion than conviction. With Airbus and Boeing set to lauch bigger aircrafts, it wont be long before we would realize that the current expansion is only way backward than moving forward.
Inefficiency and complacency is a curse dodging our country for as long as i can remember…God save us all!
March 14, 2007 at 9:58 AM
Hi gentlemen, though Trichy airport expansion project rather seems belated, it’s considered lucky that we have something moving now than nothing.
The next expansion that has already started, is the expansion of RUNWAY from the recently expanded runway of 8,100 feet to 12,500 feet, allowing bigger aircraft such as Boeing 777 and Airbus 380.
For your info, there was much toiling and political pressure, as to which airport should be priortise first, in establishing a second International airport in Tamil Nadu, after Chennai. This was the reason for the undue delay.
Hence, with the present central&state governments having a cordial relationship, may expect Trichy airport to be developed on par with the other International airport in the country, in the very near future.
Moreover, to further re-inforced the commitments on expanding the Trichy airport, AAI hired US consultants recently to study the potential of Trichy airport, whereby, the US consultants gave a very positive outlook, indicating good geographical location, industrial potential, tourism potential, medical tourism potential, pilgrimage tourism potential, international transit point potential etc.
Therefore, with the various potential aspects of Trichy airport, would wish and hope, will be developed smoothly into a big international airport without any more hitches. CHEERS&GOOD LUCK.
March 14, 2007 at 10:45 AM
Do I agree with Jeeva that ‘something is better than nothing’…… NOOOOOOO.
why should we always accept and be content with ‘something’ Jeeva?
This mentality of ours , I strongly feel, is our main problem and obstcle towards our normal progress we should have made with our population and abundent natural resources. We have to wait for our neighbour China to become a devloped country to realise that we too can become.. What happened to our originality? Why do we loose our aggressiveness to move our nation forward? I think most of our readers will accept the point I am trying to make. Unless we realise our potential, know our strength and be ambitious, we can not move forward and that will come only by not accepting those ‘something’.
March 15, 2007 at 5:27 AM
I’m not sure where Jeeva picked up those runway figures??!! An A380’s aircraft’s outer-most engines, however, would hang just beyond the standard 150-foot runway width, requiring upgrades at many airports. Even, if Jeeva’s figures are approximately accurate there are other problems facing bigger aircrafts on the ground as the standard parking bays will NOT accommodate them.
We are not just talking of expanding the tarmac mate…it’s serious business that will involve intense safety measures for which the skills required are simply not available.
As Deen has pointed out, accepting and living with “something” is our biggest problem. It is sort of a beggaring attitude that we have learnt to joyfully accept since the british colonial rule.
Will we ever move on?? It is a question that worries me to guarantee an answer coz majority of the population simply does not seem to even have the motivation. Let us just hope for the best to happen sooner or later!

Good to hear services to TRZ airport is being increased. I will be happy if they started more service to Kuwait-TRZ
March 25, 2007 at 1:16 PM
ONCE AIRINDIA EXPRESS START ITS SERVICE FROM KUWAIT TO TRICHY/CHENNAI, IT SHOULD START FROM KUWAIT PREFERRABLY ON THURSDAY EVENING SO THAT “AIE” WOULD GAIN MORE PASSENGERS. NEEDLESS TO STATE THAT FRIDAY IS WEEKEND FOR KUWAITI AND THE PASSENGER CAN ABLE TO GAIN ONE DAY ON TOP OF LIMITED HOLIDAYS ( 21-30 DAYS) GRANTED BY PUBLIC & PRIVATE SECTORS ESTABLISHMENT.
March 25, 2007 at 3:00 PM
My Friend Basarie,
Usually Budget Airlines will not use any airport at peak times as it will increase their cost and subsequently the ticket cost. That is the reason why it will be Fridays, Mondays and Wednesdays plus day time as Airport will be charging them less tax for off-peak time.

April 17, 2007 at 1:42 PM
hi all,
I am very happy to heard this service.
April 18, 2007 at 6:42 AM
Guys, once the Jet-Sahara deal is completed, “Jeteasy” a new low cost carrier will be floated and begin services to the GCC starting June 2007.
Presumably, TVM/Chennai-Dubai would be the first in the list followed by other routes. It is still unclear if services to Trichy would be avaialble, however, sooner or later, Trichy would be in the list.
With AIE apprentaly over crowded/delayed and VERY UNSAFE to fly with technical snags, Jeteasy could be the best choice for safety conscious flyers. Lets hope the merger of AI & Indian will wake up the government owned airliner to competition and be more effective in safety, comfort and service.
April 18, 2007 at 8:40 AM
Correction: The new Air Shara under Jet will be called “JET LITE” and not “jet easy” as mentioned previously. Sorry guys, for the error!

It is good news to hear direct flights to Trichy from many destinations. We wish Air India Express to operate direct flights from Doha to Trichy as they do for other sectors
May 30, 2007 at 1:25 PM
Air India has bought seven new Boeing Aircraft for its low cost operations ( Air India Express). These are perhaps the best ones so far in it fleet with features like leather seats & in-flight entertainment. However, the Planes stand grounded at Air India’s hanger in Mumbai, as there are no Pilots to fly. Besides, very soon there will be four more similar planes parked unused due to short of cockpit crew.
During the current vacation session, all airlines attempt to maximize revenue by way of trying to keep as many planes on air, grounding aircraft is not only a waste of revenue but also an opportunity lost.
As NRI are waiting for Air India Express service from Kuwait to Trichy, there is no proper step taken by AIE in spite of repeated requests made by Tamilians in Kuwait
May 31, 2007 at 3:23 PM
AIE will start additional and new services when Apron work extension is completed.

I have been trying to see Air India Express (XIxxx) flight listings in
(www.flightstats.com/go/FlightStatus/flightStatusByAirport), but none
appears ex dep/arr airports such as MAA or CMB.
I am sure these flights depart from Chennai / Tiruchirapalli.
Is there a special reason for Air India Express to go un-listed in
such a global website like Flightstats.com?
The strange thing is, I can see their arrival & departure in
Chagiairport.com (SIN).

AIE plans for near daily services between Trichy – Singapore – Trichy, with some days with 2 flights/day, with effect from 10/09/2007. No news about Trichy – Dubai – Trichy daily services as of now.
Also, plans for Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur and Johore Bahru services from Trichy soon.
The above information will be announced by AIE soon.
August 23, 2007 at 4:18 PM
Yes, I can see the schedule in the AIE website. M,W, F – 2 flights and Tu,Th,Sa – 1 flight. No services on sunday.
This is really good news.

This is a good news that passengers are increasing day by day in Tiruchi Airport. Thanks for the news. Ivvaanam Tiruchi vasam. Ivvaanam Ungal vasam is a word written in Tamil in Mihin Lanka flight which operates daily flights to Tiruchi.
August 25, 2007 at 4:57 AM
Thanks to AIE for increasing the frequencies from the current 3 flights to 9 flights on TRZ-SIN sector and from three to 6 flights on SIN-TRZ sector from 10th September 2007.
August 26, 2007 at 12:14 PM
dear all,
I found from the website of AIE that it is going to introduce additional flights to Singapore from the present 3 to 9. I can’t understand about the additional six services, Is it arrived from any other destination apart from chennai.
August 26, 2007 at 10:11 PM
Dear Narayanan,
AIE is increasing these additional services to Trichy by rerouting their current flights from Chennai-Singapore sector.
Now currently from Singapore AIE is operating Daily flight to Chennai at 9.50 am, 3days via Trichy and 4 days direct to Chennai. From 10th Sep, it will be 6 days via Trichy and 1 day direct to Chennai.
From Trichy currently 3 flights to Singapore at 23.55 pm to Singapore. Additional 6 flights are being added by rerouting flights Singapore -Trichy-Chennai.
ie From 10th September the sector will be Sin-Trz-Mas-Singapore on 6 days and the total frequencies will be 9 by adding the existing 3 services.
August 27, 2007 at 8:43 AM
thanks venkat for the information
August 27, 2007 at 3:06 PM
Starting September 10th, Trichy-singapore router will have 9 flights while Singapore-Trichy will have 6 flights and not 9 flights.

I am very happy to know the Trichi Airport’s fast improvement. At this moment I would like to express my concerns regarding direct flight from Trichi to Dammam (Saudi Arabia).
Now there is a Air India direct flight from Chennai – Dammam is available. If Air India re-route this flight as Chennai-Trichy-Dammam-Trichi-Chennai will be more help full for thousands of people working in Saudi Arabia in around of Trichy Airport.
Now the people are using Sri Lankans Airlines which Dammam – Colombo – Trichy. This highly profitable route for Air India.
I request the Air India Authorities to consider my request and make a study.
Thank you.

Personally, doubt Paramount will ever operate to&fro Trichy, since, Paramount airways is a Madurai based airline, and had announced sometime back, during their inaugural flight operation of Paramount airways from Madurai, that they will only make Madurai as their main hub of operations from the south, linking all the various far flung domestic cities of India, as well as, future International operations. Hence, Trichy will not be in their radar of flight operations.
Nevertheless, if due to market forces, Paramount might consider to operate to&fro Trichy then. But, for now, only concentrate on Madurai, and at the same time, try make Madurai as the main gateway of the south, for both domestic and International operations.
Hence, has been hearing that due to the above by Paramount airways, Kingfisher has taken this opportunity, and is considering to make Trichy as one of their hub of operations in the south, and may plan for both domestic and international operations from here. Well, lets see the developments, once upon completion of Terminal building and other ancillary works at Trichy airport.
September 2, 2007 at 12:46 PM
I think we have very good connections to chennai by daily service of Indian and AIE international operations with A-320/B737 compared to Maduarai which has got only smaller air craft except the one operated by Indian.
We trichians by travelling directly to Trichy instead of thro chennai can make all the airlines operating currently to Trichy as successful.

Paramount might start services to Trichy. Here is the email response from customer care.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Paramount Airways has proposed to enhance intra-State air connectivity in Kerala by linking Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.
Airline Managing Director M. Thiagarajan proposed this to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan when he met him here on Thursday. Paramount will operate more flights to the State and prefers to make Kochi one of its operational hubs.
Briefing reporters about his meeting with Mr. Achuthanandan and the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) managing director Sriram Bhagat, Mr. Thiagarajan said he had offered to reserve 30 to 40 per cent seats for Government officials. Senior Government officials are eligible to travel by second class A/C and they can avail themselves of Paramount’s offer, he said.
Mr. Achuthanandan has agreed to consider the proposal favourably. Though the airline was keen on making Kochi an operational hub, Mr. Thiagarajan said, however, that ground handling charges at the airport were 15 to 20 times higher than in other airports. The landing and parking charges were very high, too.
Mr. Thaigarajan has brought these issues to the notice of the Chief Minister and Mr. Sriram Bharat. They have offered to work out a package to make the operations viable for the company, he said. The airline plans to operate more flights in the Bangalore-Kochi and Bangalore-Kozhikode sectors. There are also plans to increase the number of flights in the Tiruchi-Chennai, Hyderabad-Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad-Bangalore sectors.
Detailing the expansion plans of the airline, Mr. Thiagarajan said Paramount would operate flights to Western India by 2008 and North India by 2011. The company planned to operate international flights only after 2011, after consolidating its position within the country.
Having secured a prime position in South India by notching up a 26 per cent market share, Paramount plans to provide in-flight television entertainment and the facility to use mobile phones on board by the third quarter of 2008.
September 2, 2007 at 6:01 PM
Madurai has better connection to Chennai with 10 flights a day. As for Trichy, on an average there are only 3-4 flights to Chennai. Since AIE and Indian are international flights, not all seats are allocated on this route. In case of Indian, I guess only 50 seats are allocated while in AIE it should be around 75-100.
In My view Trichy needs better connectivity and good schedules. Most of the current flights are in odd hours.

5-start hotel opposite Trichy Airport
——————————————————————————–
Here is the information from the KK real estate website.
The influence of the Airport expansion and the IT park approval has been felt in Tiruchy Real Estate arena. With a 5-star hotel to come up opposite to the Airport, a marriage hall and a shopping center adjacent to it, the real estate activities has gained momentum near the IT Park.
Is it really true? or Just a marketing propaganda? Anyone have any insight?

September 5, 2007 at 2:25 PM
The apron work was in advance stage when I visited Trichy in July and hope it is completed soon.
We have heard operators would start new services after expansion of runway. But, except for AIE and Mihin Lanka, no other operators have started services. Now we hear that operators will start new services after expansion of the Apron work or completion of new terminal. The completion of terminal will take another couple of years.
Are the operators really interested in connecting Trichy?
September 6, 2007 at 7:44 AM
Hi adhil
The last date for completion of apron work is december 2007 and for terminal is dec2008 but both will be finished before time apron work is about to complete and will be usable shortly(within a month) and terminal building is almost over and will be completed fully on or before mar 2008 as per airport authorities.
September 6, 2007 at 8:54 AM
I doubt if terminal building construction will be completed by mar 2008 or even dec 2008. AAI took almost 4 years to complete the runway expansion. The runway expansion was suppose to be completed in 15 months.

Generally, many domestic&International airlines are keen to operate at Trichy airport next to Chennai.
To name a few : Air Arabia, Oman Airways, RAK Airways, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways,Tiger Airways, Silk Air, Singapore Airlines, Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, NOK Air etc.
From the way to the above, I’ve been hearing that Trichy airport could serve as a major transit hub, for the various international airlines, serving between the east and the western parts of the World

AIE starts 6 additional flights to Singapore and to add more destinations including Abu Dhabi
——————————————————————————–
Air India Express has launched six additional flights a week to Singapore from Tiruchi.
The budget airline is already operating three flights a week each in the Tiruchi-Singapore and Tiruchi-Dubai sectors.
Tiruchi Airport Director S. Sreekumar flagged off the first additional Singapore-Tiruchi-Chennai-Singapore flight here on Monday.
With this, the total number of Air India Express flights in the Tiruchi-Singapore sector will go up to nine. While three flights are being added to Singapore with the deployment of another Boeing 737-800, the existing Singapore-Tiruchi flights will be operated back to Singapore on three other week days.
With the additional flights, Tiruchi will boast of air services to Singapore six days a week, except Sunday.
The additional flights will be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (two flights to Singapore from here on these days). The Singapore-Tiruchi-Chennai-Singapore flight will reach Tiruchi at 11.20 a.m. and leave for Singapore at 12.20 p.m. . The Singapore-Tiruchi flights, which are being extended back to Singapore, will operate to the same timings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The Dubai-Tiruchi-Chennai-Singapore night flights will continue to operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The flights can carry a maximum of 165 passengers with a load penalty.
Air India’s district sales manager S. Kannan said the airline might operate more international destinations, including Abu Dhabi, from Tiruchi, once the airport’s infrastructure was strengthened. Airport sources said the new apron was likely to be commissioned soon.

Jet Airways & its subsidary Jetlite could be the first given permission to fly there. Acc. to Civil Aviation Ministry sources, JET could start its new routes Abudhabi, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait & Bahrain. Permission are likely to be obtained in a fex weeks, thereafter Gulf routes will be opened in tier II cities of India
September 12, 2007 at 6:09 AM
I guess the source of your information could be wrong…. The middle east routes will open up for private carriers only in 2009! Jet Airways is trying to get in by next year which the indian policy makers from the dark ages are sure to reject.
September 14, 2007 at 5:32 PM
Govt has cleared Jet Airways to fly to Kuwait, Doha, Muscat and Bahrain from Jan 2008. The most of the flights will be from Kerala.

October 24, 2007 at 12:04 AM
Hi all,
Just wanted to share one of my worst experiences with air india express and trichy airport authorities.Air India express is the worst flight I have even flown.
The service is horrible and i feel u are not even treated like a human being by the air hostess.
Secondly , i had to face so many tensions in airport on weight regulations and ridiculously, I was allowed to carry laptop bag which is universally allowed along with hand luggage for international travel was considered a part of hand luggage.
It really sucks getting down in the runway and being transported in a bus.If u are planning to goto trichy directly , please avoid it.I feel its better to go via chennai, rather going through all these tortures.Just wanted to share my experience..
October 24, 2007 at 6:26 AM
Dear Kartik,
Let us know where you were traveling and when.
It is important for people like you to file a complaint with the airport officer for all the hassles you have faced rather than saying AVIOID.
I DONT think anything unusual for travelling by bus from runway to terminal ( which will be overcome next year ) ??????????//
October 24, 2007 at 6:39 AM
Hi Karthik, r u aware that u a flying a budgeted AIE carrier??????????????
Current Trichy airport is undergoing major infrastructural changes…………….,hence, may expect some inconveniences in the process!!!!!!!!!! Your wish of going via Chennai is your choice……….,thus, no need advise others to avoid it for the sake of u!!!!!!!!!!!,perhaps u r from Coimbatore or elsewhere……….., that there r many people like u who r jealous & against Trichy developments in all it’s spheres……………………………….
October 24, 2007 at 10:06 AM
I’m not surprised by karthik’s experience! Infact Indian, AI and AIE are the worst carriers of this planet…
I remember reading a complaint by another traveller about this laptop being treated as part of weight limit – Ridiculous and insane!
Trichy airport staff and AAI deserve some serious whipping for their attitude. They are freaks who view travellers with jealousy coz they can’t afford to fly…the bad treatment usually stems from that jealousy. Losers! Go to hell!
Jeeva, stop being childish like many others in this site and accept the short comings gracefully. There is no way forward if there isn’t a collective voice aginst rotten attitude.

This guy has truly lost his mind and quabbles like a frothing monkey.
If you think imitating or stealing what i write is gonna annoy me then you are only making a perfect chimp out of yourself!
Come on MORON, be a man(and don’t be a gay) and write something at least from your butt if not from your head.
P.S: What is it with the outrageous use of exclamation mark – Perhaps one of your moneky tools? And oh yeah, please do a spell check for what ever little that you could write…coz your spelling sucks!

Hi There
Good News for South East Asia Working Group , Malaysian Low Cost Budget Airlines AIR ASIA has got The Landing Rights from Trichy
They are planning to Fly Kuala Lumpur – Trichy Sector By end of this Year , It has been officially declared by Mr-Tony Fernandes – CEO of AirAsia , Its a good news for Trichians, Be Happy .
March 24, 2008 at 5:21 AM
It is a great news!. Recently I was in Trichy, and could see the improvements. It is very impressive. The Airport official are very nice and concious. As per the discussion with one of the Air India Staff, I could able to feel that the Airport work will be completed in August, approval from the AAI will be in September. Trichian can expect more internal & international flight connectivity to Trichy from this fourth quarter 2008.
March 24, 2008 at 5:48 PM
Lets not get too excited. It doesnt make any sense to have a new terminal when the govt is not approving additional security personal for Trichy airport.Unless Trichy airport has additional security, we wont see any increase in national or international flights.
May 10, 2008 at 1:04 PM
Why the hell the one from coimbatore is gonna take trichy airport jeeva… coz coimbatore is well connected with major Indian cities and it has got international connections with Singapore,Sharjah and Colombo… First of all think and dont blame others ,if anyone complaint about trichy airport it doesnt mean they will be from coimbatore …
May 24, 2008 at 6:04 AM
I am from Kumbakonam. I used to travel with my family from Doha to chennai and take road ways from there to kumbakonam. It is a nightmare to go by roadways with family from there. when is this much awaited Doha -Trichy direct flights gets in air.

Thanks Adhil.
i went through air india schedule and could not find anything. As you say srilankans have a connected flight through Colombo to trichy. The worry for me here is not to travel through Sri lanka as it is a risk with family. i am looking for a flight which can connect me to trichy directly or through chennai.

Air India has announced that its flight from Sharjah to Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchi and Chennai (IC 968) would be operated via Tiruchi on all seven days a week from August 21 onwards.
The airline had increased the frequency of Chennai-Tiruchi-Thiruvananthapuram-Sharjah flights to make it a daily flight from March 30. However, the return flights (IC 968) were skipping Tiruchi on three days a week owing to the manpower shortage in the Central Industrial Security Force unit at the airport here.
With the recent augmentation of strength of the CISF unit, the airline has made the flights a daily service in the return direction too.
The flights will arrive at Tiruchi at 4.10 a.m., from Sharjah/Thiruvananthapuram and leave for Chennai at 5 a.m., according to a press release from T.H. Radhakrishnan, Station Manager, Air India.

Jet Airways should fly smoothly on Dubai route
Anirban Chowdhury / New Delhi July 18, 2008, 0:38 IST
When the full service carrier Jet Airways starts its flights to Dubai next month, it will not have to fight a bitter battle with Air India-which has dominated the market-for a share of the pie. Air India has drastically pulled out full service flights from this route in the last few months, leaving the market open for new players.
Air India, which used to operate forty direct weekly flights to Dubai, has brought the number down to around 15. Reason: the shortage of Airbus 310 aircraft. However, industry experts attribute the reduction to increased competition and margin pressures. Air India has shifted its fleet to longer haul routes following the entry of Jet Airways and capacity expansion by Emirates, while its low cost subsidiary AI Express focusses on the labour market.
Jet Airways and its subsidiary JetLite recently received the government’s approval to fly to Dubai, ending Air India’s long-standing monopoly on that route. Jet will start its Dubai flights from Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai by next month, according to company sources. Jet has also sought permission to start flights from Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Bangalore during the winter schedule next year. Jet Lite however, is not using its flying rights to Dubai for now.
“We have decided not to fly to Dubai now,” said JetLite CEO, Maunu von Lueders.
Air India has reportedly decided to stop its direct flights to Dubai from Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram and has already cut down on flights operating from Delhi and Mumbai. “The carrier used to operate a double daily from Mumbai and Delhi to Dubai. Those will be brought down to seven flights a week,” a senior executive said.
However, civil aviation ministry sources said that, looking at the rising demand for connectivity to Dubai, the ministry has advised the national carrier to increase its full service operations in that sector.
Though Air India’s low cost subsidiary AI Express has been steadily increasing its flights on the India-Dubai route, it will not be competing with Jet Airways.
“We mostly connect smaller cities such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Trichy, Nagpur, Mangalore and Kochi to Dubai and so Jet will not directly compete with us. Though we have flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, they are indirect flights. Our Chennai flights are operated via Trichy and Hyderabad, the Delhi flights go through Jaipur and Lucknow, while the Mumbai flight goes through Nagpur,” said an AI Express executive.

AIE is increasing the frequency of Dubai-Trz and TRZ-Dubai from 3 days a week to four days a week from 19th January 2009.TRZ-Sin sector has been increased from the current 10 flights a week to 11 flights a week.
For information, AIE started the service to dubai from TRZ and Mangalore with 3 weekly flights but Mangalore has daily flights now and from 15th January 2009,it will be 14 flights a week i.e 2 filghts daily to dubai where as trz- dubai is increased from 3 weekly flights to 4 weekly flights although trz-dubai sector is very profitable one for AIE.
January 4, 2009 at 8:06 AM
Dear Thanks for your info. but it is wrong. AIE operates TRZ-DXB sector on mon, wed and fridays and it remains same as 3 service only. Please be noted 19th Jan is monday which is a existing service day. For Manglore the services starts 2 flight service starts on 28th Jan onwards.
Please publish only correct info and don’t misguide other readers. Please visit to AIE website for further details
January 4, 2009 at 8:39 AM
Mr.Raj what Mr.Karu says is correct.
The additional service to dubai by saturday and also additional service to singapore that take total flights to singapore from the present 10 to 11.
It’s happy to see the developments.Srilankan is going to introduce 180 seater aircraft and thus reducing its frequency from the present 11 to 7 services w.e.f 14.01.2009.
Mihin is going to operate 3 times a week to colombo from 2nd January. So no.of aircraft movements will not come under.
Moreover I am eager to see the Dec’08 passanger statistics. Definitely TRZ airport handle 40000passangers due to the introduction of Air Asia flight to Kulalumpur.
I wish TRZ airport will handle 50000passangers in the coming months

For over one and half years AIE has been saying about adding additional services and starting new services from Trichy, but everything is on paper.Every time AIE comes up with reasons for postponing additional/new services to Trichy.

Looks like paramount cancelled the morning flight from chennai to trichy. Sometime back kingfisher cancelled night flight to trichy from chennai. Even drop in ticket fare not increased passenger patronage.

Yeah……………………….due to aircraft maintenance & moderate patronage in view of current low season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good News for Tiruchians. Now they can fly all the seven days straight to Dubai. But being a Low cost carrier AIE should consider to reduce the cost between Dubai to Tiruchi. Minimum Fare Kept as AED.749/- is too high since Emirates operates for AED.780/- to Chennai. All other Airlines also slashed the airfare. Air Arabia opearates flight to Chennai & Coimbatore for AED 385 which is 50% of the minimum Fare of AIE. AIE kept the fare ery high to Tiruchi compare to destinations in kerala/Mangalore. They have to follow the same fare formula for Tiruchi then only this route will yield more economical for AIE. Otherwise there is no meaning for this service with high cost in this recession period.
Since AIE starts daily service, what will be the condition of Indian which flies to Sharjah. Indian is charging minimum fare as AED 900/- for this Sharjah- Tiruchi and will loose the passengers. Are they going to operate or withdraw this sector?
February 16, 2009 at 6:17 AM
Its not surprise AIE has high fare, infact most of the airlines charge more to operations to Trichy.AIE charges more to Dubai and Singapore from Trichy when compared to Chennai.Similarly Air Asia, Indian and Srilankan have higher fare.Even Paramount and KF domestic flights have high fare from Trichy when compared to other cities.
Basically Trichy needs more airlines for fares to competitive.
But, will govt give approval for more airlines to start services from Trichy??

Last sunday I took a AIE flight to chennai. The flight arrives with a full capacity from Singapore and left from Trichy around 100passangers. The journey was nice. I disappointed that the new terminal yet to be opened for commerical operations
April 8, 2009 at 3:46 PM
It is disappointing that the new terminal is being delayed. At every stage of development we get to hear new stories.Definitely AAI at Trichy is inefficient. The AAI couldnt get sufficient CISF personal for over 2 years now.

Low-cost carrier Air India Express will introduce a twice-a-week service on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Abu Dhabi sector from April 30.
Abu Dhabi will be the third foreign destination to be linked from Tiruchi by the airline. The new service would be in addition to AI Express’ flights to Dubai and Singapore from here. The airline recently increased the frequency of its flights on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Dubai sector. It operates 14 flights a week to Singapore and seven flights a week to Dubai.
The Chennai-Tiruchi-Abu Dhabi flights (IX 613/614) would be operated on Thursdays and Saturdays, sources told The Hindu. The flight will depart Chennai at 12.50 p.m., arrive here at 1.40 p.m and leave for Abu Dhabi at 2.30 p.m. In the return direction, it will arrive from Abu Dhabi at 11.55 p.m., depart for Chennai at 12.50 a.m. to reach Chennai at 1.40 a.m.
The introduction of the service comes in the wake of a good demand, airline sources said pointing out that many travellers were taking the Dubai flight and drive down from there to Abu Dhabi. Otherwise, they take a connecting flight from Colombo to Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, the airline has slashed fares on the Tiruchi-Chennai sector and introduced a special fare of Rs.999 (inclusive of taxes), against its existing fare of Rs. 2,330. The special fare comes into immediate effect. The airline hopes to attract a substantial number of train travellers.

TRZ airport handles around 48000passangers in the month of March’09. 40647Intl+6600domestic.
Overall TRZ airport handles 500000passangers compared 3.94lac passangers during the previous year. Growth rate is around 18% as expected.
At the same time Madurai airport shows a negative growth of 3.64lac passangers to 3.52lac passangers. Not only Madurai, all the international airports in the country showing a negative growth.
I hope TRZ will handle 50000plus passangers from April onwards.
May 13, 2009 at 12:58 PM
Why are you always targetting Madurai Airport. Dont compare Trichy Airport with Madurai, since there are no International flights from Madurai. If at all you want to compare Trichy airport with Madurai aiport then do it when Madurai gets International connectivity, after which Trichy airport will also show negative growth in passenger handling.
May 14, 2009 at 7:51 AM
Dear Shyam,
I am not always targetting Madurai I just compare the total no of passangers. Madurai has the better connectivity and patronage in domestic and Trichy is having international thats all. If Madurai gets international connectivity then also it will not compete with TRZ airport.
May 14, 2009 at 9:27 AM
Madurai’s Connectivity in domestic and Trichy’s International connectivity is well known to everyone. Lets wait and see what happens to Trichy’s passenger traffic until Madurai gets International connectivity.
May 18, 2009 at 11:38 AM
Hi,
I am very much disappointed about the election results at Trichy. This time also Trichy is not having a central minister after Late Mr.Kumaramangalam. So we cannot expect much developments for the Trichy including Trichy airport modernisation programme.
May 18, 2009 at 12:33 PM
Trichy airport soft opening ceremony was already completed but Grand opening will take place only after the airport is full fledged. Late Kumaramangalam, very first was made as Minister of parliament affair duirng PV Narasima Rao, due to his efficiency, talentant & well educated, and not because of he was elected from Salem or Trichy consituencies. Let us await for the formation of new government and will be given charge for Civil Aviation Minster. Expansion can be possible if the residents of the respective agrees to move to new places in order to increas runway from 8000ft to 12000ft so that Big Aircrafts to land the airport easily.such practical setbacks to be sorted out.
May 18, 2009 at 2:58 PM
Yes, it is disappointing Trichy lost another opportunity.Trichy may not see any major developments for next 5 years. With DMK-Cong losing the election I don’t think the govt will forcibly acquire land for airport expansion.Anyway the expansion is delayed due to land acquisition for the past 2 years.

azhagiri has been selected and the chances of southern district development is high now, also kongunadu munnetra kalagam a seperate party is formed which got good no. of votes in the lokshaba election and they are in idea of contesting seperately in 2011 assembly election to develop kongu region. but the development of central and delta districts trichy thanjavur pudukkottai ariyalur perambalur karur mayavaram nagai thiruvarur have no sign of development. god to save.

Trichy airport or Madurai Airport to be another S.Korea, Yanyang (Ghost Airport)??????????????????????????????????????
Yangyang International is an airport looking for a reason to exist. Built on South Korea’s east coast just seven years ago, you won’t find any delays or long queues here. In fact, you won’t find any passengers at all.
The initial vision could not have been more different.
Up to three million people a year were meant to throng the gleaming floors of the departure and arrival halls, built at a cost of almost $400m (£260m).
But last year an average of just 26 passengers a day came through the doors, vastly outnumbered by the 146 airport staff on hand to serve them.
In November the last commercial flight took off, and the terminal became what the Korean national press has dubbed a “ghost airport”, an impressive monument to overestimated demand.
But it is not an isolated example.
Empty spaces
In fact, if there was to be an award for the world’s quietest international airports, South Korea would surely be one of the favourites.
Politicians, in order to gain votes, promise their constituents an airport
Choi In-wook
Korean Citizens Action Network
At the other end of the country from Yangyang, way down in the south-west, is the even newer Muan International Airport.
It opened less than two years ago, and although a handful of flights do at least land there, the terminal is struggling.
Built amidst the surrounding onion fields, it looks an unlikely spot for a thriving airport, and the scene inside is, once again, one of empty check-in desks and empty spaces.
Figures for last year show passenger levels at less than 3% of capacity.
“It might be better if it was used a bit more,” said one passenger I spoke to, part of a group of Korean tourists preparing to catch one of only two flights leaving that day.
“But having said that,” she added, “it is nice to come to an airport that isn’t busy for a change.”
Vanishing demand
As elsewhere, the project was meant to be a boost for the local economy, bringing in visitors, and connecting the local economy with the wider world.
But the region’s farmers and fishermen may now wonder if it was a worthwhile investment.
South Korea has a total of 14 regional airports. Figures show that 11 of them lost money last year.
What should have been the 15th, another new east-coast airport, already more than 80% complete, has been suspended because of lack of demand.
And there is currently an ongoing debate about the wisdom of the plans to build yet one more, somewhere near the southern port city of Busan.
One reason for the lack of demand for air travel may be the simultaneous development of a high-speed rail link that now whisks travellers from one end of the country to the other in less than three hours, as well as the construction of a network of new motorways.
‘Political logic’
Local airports have been built by “political rather than market logic”, according to one newspaper.
The Korean Citizens’ Action Network, an organisation that monitors government spending, claims that hundreds of millions of dollars have been wasted on terminals and runways that simply are not needed.
Yanyang airport was built at a cost of almost $400m
“Politicians, in order to gain votes, promise their constituents an airport,” said spokesman Choi In-wook.
“Rather than checking the need thoroughly, the feasibility studies can be distorted to support the projects, and as a result there is an oversupply of airports in this country.”
Could not the case be made, though, that some of today’s under-used airports may turn out to have a long-term future?
“Maybe,” he said. “If they honestly forecast that there would be large, initial losses for a long-term strategic benefit, then fair enough. But from the beginning the feasibility reports are inaccurate, so no one knows the true prospects.”
Both the government and the Korea Airports Corporation, the body that manages the regional airports, refused the BBC’s request for an interview.
There are those, like the staff at Yangyang airport, who do indeed believe that they may still find a profitable future for their terminal.
But it is the views of the passengers that really matter – and for now, they are voting with their feet.

Hi,
Only one thing I can’t understand. Coimbatore Airport is the next busiest airport apart from Chennai. It handles around 100000 passangers everymonth and has international connections to Singapore,Sharjah and Dubai. TRZ airport handles around 50000passangers and in the next few months it handle 60000 to 70000 passangers and it connects to 6 international destinations. On what basis Madurai should be declared as a International Airport rather than Coimbatore and Trichy. Moreover Madurai airport at present handles A320 aircrafts. We can start the international operations immediately. International connectivity need not want a bigger termina, potential is only needed. TRZ handles 50000plus passangers in its old terminal only.

Separate police station for airport mooted Law & order
——————————————————————————–
The proposal of a police station is to have law enforcers with a role devoid of routine duties, writes R. Rajaram
——————————————————————————–
With domestic and international flight services through Tiruchi Airport on the rise over the years, the city police has proposed a separate police station exclusively for the airport with specific tasks concerning security besides investigation of passport cases.
The proposal to establish a separate police station for Tiruchi Airport on the lines of the one in existence at Chennai Airport is to have a team of law enforcers with a focussed role and responsibility devoid of the routine assignments performed by their counterparts attached to regular police stations.
In the proposal forwarded to the state police headquarters recently, the city police authorities have also sought an anti-sabotage team specialised in Bomb Detection and Disposal to be part of the separate Airport Police Station to act in times of emergency.
The need for a separate police station exclusively for the airport was felt as the existing Airport Police Station had to perform multi-various duties including maintenance of law and order in its jurisdiction, providing outer security for the airport, investigation of crime, law and order and passport cases, handling court cases, execution of non-bailable warrants besides organising peak and non-peak hour vehicle checks putting a lot of burden on them. Once a new airport police station was established, the existing one would be re-christened and divested of airport duties.
The personnel attached to the proposed separate station for the airport would have their task cut out, once sanctioned by the State government, namely maintenance of outer security of the airport premises, VIP security, investigation of passport cases, crowd regulation and management, says a senior police officer.
The Central Industrial Security Force is vested with responsibility of maintaining the airport’s inner security and the checking of the air travellers.
Increase in domestic and international flight services to and from Tiruchi over the years and frequent movement of VIPs passing through this airport and the proposed expansion have all been taken into consideration while seeking the creation of a separate police station for the airport, say authorities.
Sources say on a day nearly 10 flights (domestic and international) arrive and depart from Tiruchi Airport with the number of passengers crossing the 1,000 mark every day.
A separate police station with a focussed role would enable the law enforcers attached to it to handle matters relating to security and investigation of passport cases more effectively, say the authorities.
In the last six months alone nearly 40 passport cases had been registered at the Airport Police Station which were all “under investigation.”
Since passport cases have inter-district and inter-state ramifications as well, personnel attached to the separate police station for airport would be in a much better position to concentrate and investigate such crimes, say the authorities. The official said some of the pending passport cases would be transferred to the Crime Branch CID wing of the State Police.

fare for trichy dubai and trichy singapore sectors are always above 10000rs in airindiaexp because of monopoly why no other operators are not starting there operation in such a profitable sector indian private carriers should atleast take note of this and start service from trichy instead of fighting for profit in metros.
August 7, 2009 at 8:58 AM
First the govt is trying to protect the national carrier by not allowing international airlines to operate on the profitable sector.
Secondly, the Indian private carriers prefer metro to start international operations because of the domestic market. The passengers from Tier II cities will fly to metro to take international flights. This will increase their domestic market.
